🎶🌾🎵 Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes... Eyes and Ears and Mouth and Nose 🎵🌾🎶
These are just a few of the places that foxtails can wreak havoc on your pet!
Foxtails are the seed clusters at the top of many species of grasses. These seeds are designed to burrow one way into the ground with their barb-like structure. Unfortunately when our pets come into contact with them the foxtails can just as easily burrow into their skin causing pain, infection and in some cases more serious problems. Foxtails can also be inhaled, become lodged in ears or swallowed. It is a common misconception that eating grass is good for cats and dogs, when in reality the blades of grass will irritate the stomach lining and cause them to vomit. Grass can also get caught in the tonsils as they swallow it and a larger amount can cause an intestinal blockage.
Here's how to avoid them:
>Walk your dog on a shorter leash to keep them on the sidewalk or trail
>If foxtails grow in your yard make plans to remove them or call a landscaper for assistance
>Stay away from areas with tall or dry grass
>Do not allow your pet to eat grass
