Arizona Working Paws

Arizona Working Paws 501c3 Non Profit Animal Rescue Through our rescue, it is our goal to help educate owners about the commitment of owning a dog.

Arizona Working Paws aka AZ Working Paws became a Non-Profit in November, 2023 after deciding to turn our passion for rescuing animals into a much bigger dream. Our mission is to help save animal lives, by showing compassion through fostering and adoption, for animals who have been neglected or abandoned. At Arizona Working Paws, we are passionate about all animals, and we strive to find them dedi

cated families who will love them forever. An adoption fee is required to ensure the safety and welfare of each animal being adopted. Arizona Working Paws uses each adoption fee to help towards costs of vet visits, vaccinations, treatment, food and accessories (kennels collars, leashes, etc.) We thank you for your supporting our rescue!

ISO Foster!! 🐶

Just met this handsome boy with no name… he is scared and not sure who he should trust but within just an hour of patience and time spent with him, he was sleeping in one of our rescuers lap! We would love to take him into rescue and help find his forever home but we will need a foster for this sweet boy. Otherwise he will likely go to the local humane society. He is believed to be okay with dogs, cats are unknown and no small children. Please send us a message if interested in fostering this boy! ❤️🐾

Walter the Cavalier Update!!

On Sunday the 8th, we made a post regarding an 11-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel that needed placement and how he was immediately brought into our rescue on Thursday the 5th.

At the time we took him into rescue, we knew very little about him. He was smelly and dirty with a matted coat, he desperately needed a bath but he was still so sweet and in good spirits. When we got him home, we bathed him and realized he needed more advanced grooming, which he later received. We also noticed when touching his chest that his little heart was racing and pounding. We took him to Prescott Animal Hospital and learned that he has a grade 5 out of 6 heart murmur and needed to be on heart medications immediately. He was also suffering from an ear infection in both of his ears.

The Veterinarian recommended that he receive an x-ray of his chest to ensure he has no fluid around his heart or to see if he has an enlarged heart. A bloodwork panel was also recommended and there was mention of other possible tests he may need. By Sunday, that is when we made the post about Walter and after today, we want to give you all an exciting update!

Our rescue primarily works with working and herding breeds so we had limited knowledge of this little guy's breed and their typical health problems. Upon assessing his situation, we recognized that he needed extensive medical exams and care that was beyond our organization's current capabilities and decided to try searching for some additional help. That is when we stumbled upon Cavalier Rescue Foundation of Arizona!

After reaching out to Cavalier Rescue Foundation , in less than a few hours they jumped at the opportunity and offered to take him into their rescue without even knowing his entire situation yet. With their 14 years of experience, they are extremely knowledgeable of the breed and knew exactly what the next steps should be and began setting up appointments for an echocardiogram (echo) and even had a foster to adopt home all lined up for him! We drove down to the Valley today to meet with Cavalier Rescue Foundation of Arizona and once he was in their arms, they named him Walter.

This is just the beginning of Walter's second chance at a healthier, happier life. The best part about his journey thus far is those of you in the community who were more than willing to help Walter and the rescue at being successful with providing him the ultimate care that he needs. This is also why it is important for rescues to acknowledge when an animal may benefit from a breed-specific rescue that understands exactly what they need and that it is okay to ask for help! At the end of the day, it what's best for the dog!

Thank you all again for your support and for reaching out to offer help, it does not go unnoticed!! If you are interested in following Walter's journey, Cavalier Rescue Foundation of Arizona can be found on Facebook and Instagram!

Second Update: Thank you again for all of those who shared this post or donated, we received our goal and do not need any further donations for him at this time! It appears that someone on Nextdoor reported our post, which is a shame because we are unable to update the original post and thank everyone again who donated from there. Anyway, please stay tuned. We have another exciting update for this little guy that we will post tomorrow morning! 🐶

Update: As of this morning, we received $289 in donations! This money helps cover his wellness exam fee, vaccinations, heart medications and ear medication. Any other donations received will continue to help cover the costs of his additional medical expenses, such as X-rays, bloodwork, etc. Thank you all for helping this little guy!

On Thursday we took in a 11-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel that needed placement and at the time we knew very little about him. He was smelly and dirty with a matted coat, he desperately needed a bath but he was still so sweet and in good spirits.

When we got him home, we bathed him and realized he needed more advanced grooming. We also noticed when touching his chest that his little heart was racing and pounding. We took him to Prescott Animal Hospital and learned that he has a grade 5 out of 6 heart murmur and needed to be on heart medications immediately. He was also suffering from an infection in both of his ears and was prescribed three medications, one of which is temporary.

It was recommended that he receive an x-ray of his chest to ensure he has no fluid around his heart or to see if he has an enlarged heart. A copy of the estimate for x-rays been attached however, a bloodwork panel was also recommended and this was not included in the estimate. He was later taken to PetSmart Grooming and as you can see, Alden did an amazing job with him! He looks so happy with his fresh new bath and haircut!

This little guy is safe now and has shown us he still has a lot of life left in him and wants to have his forever family to live out his golden years. We could really use your help to ensure he receives all of the care he needs as his medical expenses are currently $641.44 and our rescue has limited funding for medical related cases.

We would also like to extend the possibility of someone fostering him as we have an active, multi-dog household and he needs a little less stimuli as he starts to adjust to his new medications and to help avoid overexertion. However, he does not need to be on bedrest and can still go on short walks around the neighborhood or run around a backyard. If interested in fostering, send us a message!

If you are able to, please donate today or help by sharing this post! Thank you for your continued support!

This old gal deserves a warm bed to lay on, not a concrete floor 🥺

Can anyone help foster Sammy, even just temporarily to avoid placing him in boarding?
