Good luck to all this season!
• To prepare, fill a ziplock bag with a folded trash bag, paper towels, and tape/ziptie, as shown in the video, and store it in your vest or pocket for easy access.
• When you down a bird, quickly retrieve it, grasping it by the head and holding it steady until the flopping stops. This helps minimize feather damage. Avoid grabbing the feet, which can cause injury, and stomping the head, which can ruin neck feathers.
• Remember that blood can ruin a mounted bird, so handle it carefully. Do not leave it in the back of the truck unless it's properly secured. Once you reach your vehicle, promptly transport the bird to a taxidermist or freezer.
