Make every day count. A couple of years ago I nearly passed away twice during recovery from what was supposed to be a routine surgery. I ended up being hospitalized for over 160 days and even more subsequently. What did I learn?

Dogs don’t have as long of a life but they really make the most of it. Every day matters. Quality matters way more than quantity and that’s one lesson we should learn from them. I think when God promised us guardian angels he never said they couldn’t be dogs. I think they may be dogs! So the number of days isn’t as important as what you fill those days with. So many dogs never get to have warm beds, a safe hand petting rather than hitting them, hearing a thousand “good girl/boys,” yummy healthy food, squeaky crinkling toys, lovely walks in the sunshine with their best friend above them and oh the love, so much love.

So no matter how many days you get, fill them with everything a dog could ever wish for, but who wouldn’t hope for more? Dogs are simply that wonderful. Collies even more special.

If there’s a way for them to return to you in any way shape or form, I believe they would. So older or young, healthy or not, naughty or perfect, just love them in way a dog needs to be loved.

So, I learned to be grateful for every single day, to delight in the little things, that zoomies are fun, a good meal should be shared, clothing should be comfy, never stop playing, and never growl unless they deserve it.
