I used to pull up in my car coming in from work to check my mail. That lazy way was so much easier because my driveway is soooo long and I didn't want to walk it. Today, I decided Norma Jean just needed fresh air because she looked a bit depressed. I'm definitely going to do this more often. I don't know who enjoyed it more - Norma or me. She immediately perked up taking in different sights and smells. That individual time means so much to our pups and I admit that having 18 dogs makes that a challenge for me, and I often feel guilty about it.

Sometimes we can go weeks without a vet bill, but this month we were hammered. Losing Cupid, recheck for Norma, surgery for Chevy, and Martin is in surgery right now getting a growth removed from his cheek. I was worried that I would have to dip into my tiny retirement yet again, but so many wonderful people came through for us. I am touched.

Denise, your timing was perfect! You wrote on your donation note to "spoil those senior babies". I promise I will. They now have food and treats for the entire month!

Update - He's a fighter! Was very worried because of his age (14 - 16) but he is a now a proven Chihuahua through and through. Vet tech told me the minute she pulled the anesthetic tube, he was ready to bite her in two. 🤣 She had a difficult time putting him on oxygen afterwards. Now the recovery. Medications 4x daily. Another appointment in 7 days.

I haven't even introduced Chevy yet, and now he's at the Animal Eye Clinic having emergency surgery. He arrived with an ulcer and I was given eye drops to treat it. Unfortunately, the ulcer has now ruptured in the back of his tiny eye. I just knew something was wrong. The doctor believes it was caught early and will attempt to close the hole BEHIND the eye. Amazing what the eye care specialists can do. Prayers please!

Not bad at all for her first try! I read on the website that it often takes several attempts. In the beginning you can see that she's amazed to just be standing. She will learn to do this! I have faith in this little girl. Thank you everyone for cheering her on and giving her this chance.

Norma, I'm trying. I promise. I've started working on this after all the pups fell asleep last night. After a frustrating hour, I decided to go to bed too and start fresh in the morning. Now two hours later, I'm still at it. I will get it together. I will. I will. I think I'm halfway there. I thought it would arrive assembled considering the price. I was wrong.

A huge THANK YOU to Lee and Cindy for sending these much needed items from our Amazon wish list. Without help, none of this would be possible. With the crisis situation that most animal shelters and rescues are now facing, it's always nice to know there are people that truly care. We might feel like we're not winning the war to stop unnecessary euthanasias, but we are ALL heroes in the eyes of each and every animal that we manage to save.

Please welcome Jenny to Miko's Sanctuary! She's an 18 year old Jack Russell and other than having arthritis, she appears healthy. We are still getting to know this little girl. She's taking a bit longer to decompress than others. Very understandable considering her age and what she's been through.
