Hey, we are in the thick of kitten season and so are our friends in rescue. We have a need for foster homes this kitten season to help us keep these little ones and the ones yet to be born healthy. The shelter isn't a great environment for kittens who haven't had their vaccinations because they aren't old enough yet.

We will provide the food, the litter and supplies needed if you have an indoor only space available with room for a cat and her kittens for 8 weeks. We also have kittens brought in too early that aren't old enough for us to adopt out yet needing care until they reach 8 weeks of age. We would prefer they were kept separate from any existing pets you may have.

You will need to bring them to us for vaccination as needed and to return to the shelter for vet care and adoption at the end of that time.

Please apply in person at Moyer Animal Shelter Powell Wyoming during our business hours.

And yes we will be taking applications for these five kittens to find forever homes, but they are not currently at the shelter to see in person.

Chloe is looking for a loving home of her own. Stop by Moyer Animal Shelter Powell Wyoming to see if she is the cat for you. Chloe is very loving and playful. She is one of the first to greet us in the morning when we come in and is great at bringing other shy cats out of their shell.

Kittens really do need to stay with their mom until eight weeks of age. Just because they've started eating more solid food doesn't mean they're ready to be on their own.

🐾 Why Kittens Should Stay With Mom Longer 🐾

One of the most common mistakes people make with kittens is separating them from their mother too early.

Tiny kittens may look independent at 5 or 6 weeks old, but they are still learning critical skills from their mom and littermates during that time.

Kittens taken too young are at higher risk for:
⚠️ Illness and weakened immune systems
⚠️ Poor social skills
⚠️ Fearfulness and anxiety
⚠️ Rough biting and scratching
⚠️ Litterbox issues
⚠️ Difficulty regulating behavior
⚠️ Poor weight gain and developmental problems

Mom cats do much more than feed their babies. They teach kittens:
🐾 How to interact appropriately
🐾 Bite inhibition
🐾 Grooming habits
🐾 Confidence and comfort
🐾 Proper play behavior

Littermates also help teach boundaries and social skills through play.

While every situation is different, kittens generally should stay with their mother and siblings until at least 8 weeks old — and many benefit from staying together even longer when possible.

Sadly, kittens separated too early are often the ones who struggle later with behavior and health issues that could have been prevented with a little more time.

The best thing we can do for kittens is let them grow up the way nature intended — with their mom, their siblings, and enough time to learn how to be cats. ❤️🐱

(Mamma cat and kittens in photo will be available for adoption in 8-12 weeks).
