πŸŽ‰ Please join us in celebrating a very special milestone for Nancy Hunziker, LVT β€” CONGRATULATIONS on her 25th ANNIVERSARY at AESC!! πŸŽ‰
Since she was young, Nancy dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. She began her journey in veterinary medicine in 1997 as a receptionist and joined Animal Emergency on June 1st, 2001, as a Veterinary Assistant. Through years of hard work, dedication, and study, Nancy achieved her goal of becoming a Licensed Veterinary Technician in 2010.
When asked why she has stayed at AESC for so long, Nancy proudly says:
πŸ’™ β€œIt is because I am treated like family. I am always respected and have been able to gain knowledge and grow in my field.”
Following our move to the new hospital, Nancy was promoted to Inventory Manager, while still stepping in to support patient care as an LVT whenever needed.
Outside of work, Nancy enjoys walks, games, and puzzles, and cheering on her favorite teams β€” Go Mariners and Go Seahawks! ⚾🏈 She is also a proud mom of 2 children and grandmother to 5 grandchildren. Over the years, she has shared her life with many beloved Newfoundland dogs, her favorite breed.
Nancy is among the most dedicated, reliable, and loyal team members AESC has ever had. She rarely misses a day, is always willing to help wherever needed, and consistently supports community events and hospital initiatives. Her kindness, calm nature, and years of experience make her exceptional in both client service and patient care.
Nancy, thank you for the incredible impact you have made over the past 25 years. AESC is a better place because of you, and we are so grateful to celebrate this milestone with you today! πŸ’™πŸΎ

πŸ›‘ IMPORTANT PSA πŸ›‘
It has been brought to our attention that there has been a confirmed case of Canine Adenovirus Type 2 and Canine Respiratory Coronavirus in the area.

Canine Adenovirus Type 2
It is transmitted by direct contact with the infected dog through inhalation or contaminated water bowls, toys, or other shared items.

Canine Respiratory Coronavirus
This is species-specific and so not the same strain as the human coronavirus. However, like human coronavirus strains, it can be contracted through direct contact and through airborne particles produced by sneezing or coughing.

If you need to come to our office with a pet showing respiratory symptoms, please stay in your car and call us from the parking lot to get checked in. We want to minimize contamination for other pets that may walk in. (360) 697-7771

Both of these being viral, there are no direct treatments, but medications can be given to help alleviate symptoms. In severe cases, the patient may require hospitalization. For more information on both conditions, there are two links to articles below.

Did you know raisins are bad for your pets? Did you know that information never stops them from doing their best to eat them? We had a furry friend come into the ER recently due to raisin ingestion, and one of our VA's had to account for each raisin that came back out post vomit induction. She sat there and counted 109! We are happy to report that the patient went home safe and sound.

As Veterinary Assistant week comes to a close, we wanted to highlight what a VA does on a daily basis;

Our assistants perform the following tasks:
-Triage
-Place IV catheters and give fluids
-Assist with endoscopy, arthroscopy, and ultrasound
-Scrub into surgery to assist the doctor (like a Surgical Technologist)
-Maintain surgical instruments and equipment
-Perform CT & radiography (similar to a Radiology Technician)
-Utilize feeding tubes
-Administer oxygen therapy
-Care for wounds and drains
-Maintain urinary catheters
-Resuscitate and care for newborns after birth
-RECOVER-certified to perform CPR

***All are also Veterinary Medication Clerks through the state of Washington (specialized training to safely fill and dispense medications, similar to a Pharmacy Technician)

Wow! Our hospital could simply not run without the amazing work of our VA's. You are truly appreciated and valued. Thank you for all that you do!

🐾✨ Celebrating Veterinary Assistant Week at AESC! ✨🐾
Did you know that many of our Veterinary Assistants started their journey at AESC as Client Care Specialists or Kennel Assistants? πŸ’™
For many team members, veterinary medicine begins with a passion for animals and a desire to learn β€” and Veterinary Assisting is an incredible pathway into the profession. At AESC, we believe career growth should never stop, and we are proud to support our team members every step of the way.
Thanks to the dedication of our amazing Training Coordinator, Charlotte, every employee has a plan for success and opportunities to continue growing their skills and career. 🐢🐱
Over the past 3 years, AESC has proudly supported more than 10 Veterinary Assistants in earning their Veterinary Technician license! πŸŽ‰πŸ‘
Our Veterinary Assistants are essential to the care we provide every single day. They help support patient treatments, assist in procedures and surgery, comfort scared pets, and keep our hospital running smoothly around the clock. Their compassion, teamwork, and dedication make an incredible impact on both our patients and our people.
No matter the title, every role in our hospital matters β€” and we are so grateful for our Veterinary Assistants and the heart they bring to AESC each day. πŸ’™πŸΎ

You have been following us this week as we salute our amazing team of Veterinary Assistants. Those highlights are but a few of our VA team. Some of our team members prefer not to partake in social media. We absolutely respect their decision, but still want to take a moment to recognize them as well.

Veterinary Assistants are crucial to making any vet office operate efficiently. They are faced with many challenges, and no two days at work are ever the same (especially here at an ER). Their ability to mold and bend to be what each individual patient and client needs is astonishing and deserves recognition and appreciation. A sincere thank you to you all for your bottomless compassion, empathy, and hardwork.
