I’m reading more and more about kittens leaving their moms at 8 weeks old. I thought I’d address this here because if you are being told that a kitten can go home with you at 8 weeks, you are talking to a backyard breeder.
Kittens need their mothers and siblings to learn how to do all the things a cat needs. Early separation causes a kitten to have no clue how to use the litter box or clean him or herself. It also means kitty is not vaccinated, may have structural issues that a vet can’t find early, such as hernias, and does not have any health testing done. Kitty may have several behavioral issues such as crying all night for mom and peeing or pooping other places bc never being taught by mom about the litter box. In addition, some kittens are taken from their mother because there is something wrong with mom and the backyard breeder is trying to get rid of the kittens before they catch it, such as feline herpes or the corona virus.

Hints you are using a backyard/unethical breeder:
-The price is too good to be true(because no health testing or vax are done on kittens or mom or dad, they use unhealthy food and unhealthy litter, etc)
-You don’t get to see mom and dad
-You don’t get regular pictures or videos or you get them weeks after you ask
-No health testing is done on parents or kittens
-kittens leave the mom and dad earlier than 12 weeks
-you can’t see where kitty has been living.

Please research. Check out the breeder. Get regular kitty updates. Medicals should be sent from the breeders vet to your vet.

Simon is a sweet white boy with green eyes. He is 2 years old and was part of our breeding program. He gave beautiful kittens but he also throws hernias. He, himself, does not have a hernia, it is just in his genes, which makes him unsuitable for our breeding program.
Simon is neutered and up to date. He is TICA registered and comes with a contract. He will come with his medical records, which can be directly emailed to your vet.
Simon does not spray here, but any cat who has been neutered after being bred could change habits. He is not used to dogs but none of my kittens or cats have had a difficult time adjusting to homes with dogs.

Absolutely. If flying, our cats are taken to their new homes with me or with a currier, kept in the cabin! It is more expensive to do it this way- but it saves lives.
