Second side to story! My comment still stands from earlier that I don’t agree with board and train programs for other reasons but unfortunately things like this do happen at programs like this. (not saying that’s the case with this story. Time will tell.)

Preventing unwanted litters is a goal we all share—but it's time to rethink the surgical approach. Hysterectomies and vasectomies, which preserve hormonal balance, can safely be performed as early as 8 weeks of age, making dogs sterile without disrupting their natural hormones.
In this study, researchers looked at whether the age at which dogs were spayed or neutered, meaning how long they were exposed to their natural s*x hormones, affected how healthy they were in old age. They studied a group of long-lived pet dogs to learn what helps dogs live longer, healthier lives. Dogs with the fewest age-related health problems were considered the most “robust.”
The results showed that both male and female dogs who kept their hormones longer (i.e., were spayed or neutered later) were 3 to 10 times more likely to be healthy in old age compared to those altered earlier. Once hormone exposure and age were taken into account, there was no difference in old-age health between males and females.
This study highlights how important s*x hormones may be for staying healthy later in life and shows that early-life decisions—like when to spay or neuter—can have long-term effects on health.

Sweet Sophie (tan) & Maui (brown) joined us early June while their mom & dad celebrated a wedding anniversary. Sadly just a few days after they got picked up their owners decided Sophie (16 years old) had to be put down before the next boarding stay the following weekend. We were so sad to hear about Sophie’s passing. 😢❤️🩹 Maui was very attached to Sophie as she grew up with her, so this was going to be her first time being boarded without her and I’m happy to say Maui did great! 🤗🐶♥️🥰You could tell she was looking for Sophie when she first arrived, hoping she would find her, but she made the best of it and enjoyed her long weekend with us ♥️

🚨 Found a Stray in Eaton County? Read This First. 🚨
We know there’s a lot of confusion right now, and we want to help clarify what to do if you find a stray animal in Eaton County. Unfortunately, Eaton County Animal Control is currently operating in a very limited capacity and, to our knowledge, is not responding to calls or taking in animals. That leaves very few options for concerned community members.
Here’s what you need to know:
🔍 If you find a stray:
Post on every platform you can: Facebook lost & found groups, Nextdoor, Craigslist, flyers in the area, etc.
Walk the dog around the neighborhood—70% of dogs are found less than a mile from home, and 42% are less than 400 feet from where they live. Many dogs find their way back on their own.
Get the pet scanned for a microchip at a vet, shelter, or pet store.
If there’s no chip or ID: the stray hold is 4 days. If there is ID, it's 7 days. During this time, you are legally required to make a reasonable effort to find the owner.
🏡 After the stray hold is up:
If no owner is found, you are considered the legal owner. Only then can rescues or shelters assist you. However, please be aware that nearly all rescues and shelters are full, and surrender waitlists may take weeks or months.
📍 Shelters can only take in animals found in their own county.
This isn’t just policy—it’s tied to taxpayer funding and liability. Just like Ingham County deputies can’t respond to calls in Eaton County, ICACS cannot take in stray animals from outside Ingham County.
📣 To Eaton County Residents:
The lack of services is a direct result of the voter millage being turned down twice. Cuts or elimination of Eaton County Animal Control services are expected, with a final decision likely in late summer or fall.
💡 How to prepare and help:
Use collars with ID—if you don’t have a tag, write your phone number directly on the collar with a permanent marker.
Secure your property to prevent escapes.
Help friends and neighbors who may not have internet or social media access to post their lost/found pets online quickly.
We know this is frustrating. We’re frustrated too. But the more we all do to prevent animals from getting lost, the fewer will be left in limbo.
Thank you for doing your part to keep pets safe. ❤️
