We're honored to be among the shelters and rescues receiving funding from the Mike and Dotty Collett Animal Care Fund this year!

Their $3,500 grant will provide ten more spay/neuter vouchers through Plumas County Animal Services for Plumas County residents. Each voucher covers up to $350 of a spay or neuter procedure for a dog or cat, and any leftover funds can go toward vaccines or other care needed at the time of the appointment.

We'd love to keep this program going, and we can only do that with your help. If you'd like to support our spay/neuter voucher fund, please consider giving during our Giving Tuesday campaign on December 1st. We also accept donations to this fund year round.

Fall's favorite flavor has arrived, and she comes with a wagging tail and a belly that's always ready for a rub. ☺️🧡🎃

Pumpkin is a five and a half year old Shepherd mix who's sweet, social, and silly.

She loves a good run, splashing in water, and chasing down tennis balls. Squeaky toys, plush toys, chews, and a well stuffed Kong are always welcome too. When the fun is done, she's just as happy to switch gears into lounging and cuddling. If you're sitting down, expect her to roll over and politely request a belly rub. Possibly several.

She came to us after her beloved person passed away, and she's handling the change with a whole lot of grace and a friendly attitude. She's confident, affectionate, and loves being around people. She'd love a family who will keep her close and make her feel right at home again.

Pumpkin enjoys playing with other dogs, and she does best with a mellow, easygoing buddy who's happy to let her set the pace. She'd thrive in an active home with people who love getting outside, and she rides great in the car for all your adventures.

Please no "drop-ins" to view dogs without an appointment. All High Sierra Animal Rescue dogs are spayed or neutered, up-to-date on age appropriate shots, micro-chipped, tested for heart worm, given heart worm preventative medication each month, and de-wormed.

Congratulations to Lassen County Animal Shelter on reaching no-kill status! This is incredible news for our neighboring county, and a testament to the hardworking staff and volunteers who make a difference every day.

We're proud to have played a part, and we're grateful to all of the rescue partners who step up to help animals in need.

BIG NEWS, LASSEN COUNTY! WE DID IT! 🎉

🐾 Lassen County Animal Shelter has officially achieved NO-KILL status through Best Friends Animal Society — with a current save rate of 95%! 🐾

This is a milestone worth celebrating, and it didn’t happen overnight. It took hard work, changes, determination, and a community of people who continued showing up for animals in need.

One of the biggest game changers this year was our partnership with Thompson Peak Veterinary Clinic, whose veterinary team stepped up to help us spay and neuter puppies and kittens before adoption. This opened more doors for young animals to find homes right here in our community instead of depending on rescue placement.

We are incredibly grateful to our dedicated rescue partners — SPCA of Northern Nevada, High Sierra Animal Rescue,Pawsibilities, The Biggest Little Cat Rescue and Boxers and Buddies — along with Your Local Pet Station, Lassen Humane Society, our local media partners, Lassennews.com / Lassen County Times and Susanvillestuff.com, Jackie Earnshaw of SitSpot Canine Center, and every person who has adopted, donated, shared a post, or supported our shelter.

From January through October 8th, we took in 525 animals. Behind every number is a living being who needed care, a chance, and someone willing to help.

For our staff, this achievement means so much more than a designation. We have faced difficult days, constant intake, limited options, and the challenge of overcoming negative perceptions while continuing to do the work.

We are tired. We are proud. And we are so grateful. ❤️

We also launched our official page this year so our community could see more of the animals, challenges, and successes happening behind our shelter doors. Today, we get to share our biggest success yet!

Lassen County Animal Shelter is officially No-Kill, and our current save rate is 95%.

This is a milestone — not a finish line. We will keep working, keep building partnerships, and keep fighting for the animals who need us.
