How gorgeous is this little muffin?! Meet Ms. Mavis! 😍🍫

This pocket sized chocolate chip muffin has all the ingredients to grow into an amazing companion. Our staff is working with her daily using gentle handling, positive reinforcement, and patience as she learns the ropes. One of the most important lessons for Mavis is learning that people can be kind, predictable, and safe while helping guide her through new experiences. Our staff is doing just that and we're so grateful for them.

A recent note from Mavis's training session:

"Worked with Mavis inside her kennel on basic commands. She responded to 'sit' 5/5 times, 'lay down' 4/5 times, and 'touch' 4/5 times. She did well with the cue 'off' when jumping and was able to redirect into a sit. I was also able to kneel at her level, offer affection, and gently pet her neck."

Mavis also happily hopped into the car today! πŸš—

We're so proud of this sweet girl and the progress she's making. She's gaining confidence, building trust, and moving forward at a really lovely pace. ❀️

This bright little girl is ready to bring joy, energy, and a whole lot of love to her forever home.

Beautiful girl, Rain πŸ’•

A friend to scared pups and every person she meets.
She is social and happy to meet new people, quickly showing her playful and affectionate side. She is wonderfully cuddly and has a funny, endearing way of asking for attention and snuggles.

She is a lovely age and a great medium size, making her an easy fit for many homes. Rain already knows a few basic commands and enjoys working for treats, which makes her fun and engaged during training and bonding time.

In our care, she showed curiosity toward a resident cat but was not reactive. We do recommend slow, thoughtful introductions with cats and other animals to set everyone up for success. She also does well spending time in a fenced yard near other dogs, and does well with others when introduced properly.

Rain loves a good balance of activity and relaxation. She enjoys playing fetch, chasing toys and balls, going for runs, and then settling in for cozy cuddle time. She has a joyful, playful energy paired with a soft, affectionate heart.

Help brighten Rain's next chapter with love, stability, and sunshine. She is more than ready to give that love right back, and then some.

Age: 3 years
Weight: 61 pounds
Other Dogs: Does well with dogs in adjacent yards and when introduced properly.
Cats: Interested, slow intros recommended
Kids: Presumed to do well, sweet girl
Home Type: active home, semi active home, family dog, cuddle bug
Leash Behavior: walks fairly well on leash
Commands: sit, down
Clean on one side of her kennel, does well in cars/vans

If you are interested in adopting Rain please fill out our online application at highsierraanimalrescue.org. Once your application has been reviewed and approved we will work with you to schedule an appointment.
Please no "drop-ins" to view dogs without an appointment.
All High Sierra Animal Rescue dogs are spayed or neutered, up-to-date on age appropriate shots, micro-chipped, tested for heart worm, given heart worm preventative medication each month, and de-wormed.

MEDICAL FOSTER NEEDED FOR KERMIT πŸΈπŸ’š

Before arriving at our rescue, Kermit suffered a rear CCL injury. He is awaiting a second opinion and will likely require surgery, but before we can move forward, we need to line up a safe place for him to recover.

Unfortunately, the rescue environment is not an appropriate place for Kermit to heal. Recovery from surgery requires strict rest, limited activity, and close monitoring. What Kermit needs most right now is a calm home where he can relax, recover, and receive the individual attention he deserves.

Kermit is a 3 year old, 55 pound sweetheart with stunning blue eyes, a goofy personality, and a heart of gold. Despite his injury, he remains gentle, affectionate, and eager to spend time with people. He loves treats, toys, car rides, and being close to his humans. Everyone who meets him falls in love with his sweet nature and resilient spirit.

Ideal foster home 🏑
-Quiet environment
-No dogs that will encourage play or roughhousing/able to keep him separate from others
-Someone willing to help him follow activity restrictions
-Lots of love and a comfortable place to rest

We provide everything a foster home needs for one of our dogs.

CAN'T FOSTER BUT WANT TO HELP?

Kermit is likely facing a major surgery, with estimates reaching as high as $6,000.
As a nonprofit rescue, unexpected medical cases like Kermit's can place a significant strain on our resources, especially after several dogs have recently required extensive veterinary care. πŸ˜”

Every donation, no matter the size, helps ensure we can continue saying "yes" to dogs in need while providing Kermit with the care he deserves.

He has so much life, love, and joy ahead of him.

If you are interested in fostering Kermit during his recovery, please fill out our foster application
highsierraanimalrescue.org/adoptable-dogs

If you're able to donate, every contribution brings Kermit one step closer to the care he needs.

Please share this post. The right foster home could change Kermit's life. πŸ’š Let's get this kiddo back to hopping and moving with ease!

⚠️ SCAM ALERT ⚠️

We were made aware today of a scam targeting owners of lost pets in our area.

A person claiming to represent our rescue contacted the owner of a missing dog and falsely stated that we had their dog and that it needed emergency surgery. The caller then demanded immediate payment and requested debit card information.

To be absolutely clear: We do NOT contact pet owners demanding immediate payment for veterinary care, and we do not have veterinary staff on site.

If you receive a call claiming to be from our rescue with a similar message:
β€’ Hang up.
β€’ Contact us directly using the phone number listed on our official page. (530) 832-4727
β€’ Never provide payment information to an unsolicited caller.

We are saddened that someone would take advantage of families who are already worried about a missing pet. Please share this post to help protect others in our community.

If you have received a similar call, please let us know and consider reporting it to local law enforcement.

Stay safe, and thank you for helping us spread the word.

Little Berry got some extra love today πŸ’•πŸ«πŸ“

Surprisingly, she has not received an adoption application yet!

This girl has a personality that lights up every room she enters. She's cuddly, playful, and always happy to curl up in a lap for snuggles. She even sports a permanent little mohawk that never fails to make us smile!

Berry is great about letting you know when someone is at the door, but overall she's an incredibly friendly, affectionate little dog. She loves people and attention, and has so much joy to share.

She gets along well with other dogs and even our kitty cat!

Because Berry can be sensitive about being touched in certain spots, we recommend a home with children over 8 who can respect her boundaries and gentle nature. She did very well being handled today by new people!

Age: 5 years
Weight: 9 pounds
Other Dogs: Good with others
Cats: Friendly
Kids: children over 8
Home Type: semi active, ok for seniors and apartments

If you are interested in adopting Berry please fill out our online application at highsierraanimalrescue.org.

Thanks for volunteering today, Sandy! Have a happy birthday!

The love we have for our rescue dogs lives on long after they find their families. πŸ’›

Some of our longtime followers may recognize this face, though she's a little grayer these days. And if you've recently started following along after one of our posts reached a wider audience, welcome. We're glad you're here!

Jezzy's mom sent us these photos today of Jez relaxing in the yard, paws crossed as always. Jez spent years with us, and while it was hard to say goodbye, it was also one of the happiest days we've had. Seeing her now, safe, loved, and completely at home, reminds us why we do this work.

Right now, we have several long stay dogs waiting for their chance. They aren't being overlooked because they're bad dogs or because they have overwhelming behavioral challenges. Often, it's something as simple as their age, their color, their size, or no reason at all. Coco, Buzz, Pepper, Glenn, Kermit.

We spend time with these dogs every day, helping them build the skills and confidence they need to succeed in a home. We also have an incredible trainer on our team who is available to support adopters along the way.

We encourage you to take a chance on a dog who has been waiting. The dog everyone passes by could turn out to be the best friend you've ever had...just ask Jezzy!

And if adoption isn't possible right now, please consider becoming a monthly donor to High Sierra Animal Rescue. Every dollar helps provide food, medical care, training, enrichment, and love while these dogs wait for their families.

Lately, we've been facing one unexpected veterinary expense after another πŸ₯Ί and your support means more than ever. We make a lifetime commitment to every dog who comes through our doors because we believe every one of them deserves a couch, a yard, and a family to call their own.

You can donate through our website, social media, Venmo, PayPal, by mail, or by phone. Monthly donations, no matter the amount, help us provide consistent care for dogs who are still waiting for their happy ending.

For those of you who remember Jezzy, we hope seeing her happy face brings a little extra sparkle to your day, just like it did to ours. βœ¨πŸ’›
