Firsts and lasts.

Over the last few days, I’ve had countless conversations with friends near and far but almost every conversation circles back to this one single thing.

Spotty was the catalyst to almost everything I hold close to my heart.

He is responsible for countless friendships, a thriving business, and endless adventures I never would have went on had it not been for him.

I’m convinced the friendships were intentional. Almost like he planted specific people in my life because he knew they would be there for me when he no longer could.

I have never had to feel alone in this journey - making this both a heartbreaking and beautiful experience.

To each of you who has reached out please know how much I appreciate your love. Hearing how Spot has touched your lives only solidifies his purpose and impact in this world.

I’ve known I wanted a Dalmatian since I was five years old.

From the moment we met, you were mine and I was yours.

We chose you because you were brave. You were the first to explore and were always making us laugh.

I’m not sure brave was something I’d call you as an adult dog, but you did love to explore.

You never said no to an adventure and you were my absolute favorite running buddy.

I’ll miss your ridiculously soft ears and the way your hair swirled on the back of your neck.

I’ll miss the way you waited for me, all curled up on my side of the bed, while I put the kids down.

You were my safe place. The thing I sought out when I needed a minute to breathe.

It was always you.

Today, you weren’t there for me to say good morning to.

Your food bowl will remain empty and your favorite toy football still lying on the floor.

I don’t know how I am going to navigate this world without you and quite honestly, I’d always hoped I’d never have to.

I’m still trying to figure out why heart dogs can’t stay for a lifetime but perhaps that’s a lesson you have yet to teach me.

Spotty dog, thank you for the most incredible 13 years of my life. You made every day better and not a minute goes by that I don’t feel your presence in everything I do.

I love you forever. ❤️

On Sunday I was certain I was going to have to say goodbye to my boy.

There actually wasn’t a doubt in my mind that I would be celebrating his birthday without him.

When I found him, he couldn’t stand up or walk without falling over.

It was clear he was in a lot of pain and that’s the last thing I’d ever want for him.

His vet came in on her off day and I asked her, “is it time?” And to my surprise she said “no.”

Just imagine the deep exhale of relief.

No neuro deficits and most likely a muscular injury. He should be able to recover with time.

We have an uphill journey ahead of us but he’s walking and he very much still wants to be here.

So long as he says “I want to stay,” I’ll make sure he does. 🤍

My boy is 13.

Saying that aloud feels surreal.

Thirteen.

Thirteen years of adventures, memories, hard times and real good ones too.

These fluffy, buttery soft ears have never left my side.

I was certain we were going to lose him yesterday but in typical Spotty fashion, he wouldn’t dare miss a party.

While I know the day every dog parent fears is coming, I’m relishing in the fact that today he is here.

My boy got to hear me say “happy 13th birthday” and that’s all I could ever ask ❤️

Ducky’s story reached thousands of people because of this community. Every share, every comment, every tag, every message — it matters more than you probably realize.

Homebound Hound was created because too many incredible dogs spend months (sometimes years) waiting to be seen. Ducky is exactly why we started this project. A dog full of personality, resilience, and love who simply needed more people to know she existed.

Meet Ducky, our next Homebound Hound.

She’s blind, has one eye, and has spent almost her entire 2 years of life waiting for a home.

But Ducky is not a sad story.

She’s funny, smart, wildly loving, treat and toy obsessed, and full of the kind of personality you can’t help but fall in love with. She maps new places like a Roomba, plays fetch by sound, comes running for a Ziplock bag, and gives kisses like it’s her full-time job.

Ducky is currently in Portland, Oregon and looking for a patient, loving home that will let her take things at her own pace.

She is brave. She is hilarious. She is so ready.

So…I wasn’t going to launch the mustard yellow scarf, but then I saw it on my dog as he was prancing on tiny yellow flowers and well…

I think you know how this ends 🌼

Mustard will be so darn perfect for Sunflower shoots when the time comes but for now it’s the perfect, moody scarf for the dreary spring days.
