“Sit with the winners, the conversation is different.
I don’t know who said that and I don’t know how many times I’ve heard that.
The other day a good friend of mine and I were working horses. He tells me of different times and scenarios where he won and made finals because he had his horses trained and ready to handle tough situations. It took me some years back....
Some years ago I had a real good c**t and some had said I should enter him in the Ncha futurity. I mentioned it to a guy at a small show in Idaho one day.
“ Are you stupid?” He asked.
Then he went on to say
“If you’re gonna go to FT worth you can’t cut 3 good cows, you gotta cut 12 of the best cows you ever cut in your life. And you can’t have a good run but you gotta have 4 of the best runs of your life. And you gotta make sure everyone else, the best in the world, screws up and the judges don’t home town your ass back to Idaho.”
That being said I never entered.
Last week my friend and I were working horses and he says “ You ain’t gonna cut 12 perfect cows in 4 runs. Sooner or later you’re going to cut a sh*tty cow so make sure your horse is prepared to handle said situation. Make sure your horse is solid and know when you set your paw on his neck it’s his job to cut and get you to the next go round.”
He’s a winner and he knows not everything is perfect so it’s our job to make the best of less than perfect situations.
Winners find a way to win and losers find a way not to. Many find a way not to even enter and then criticize those that try.
If you chose to enter the arena, prepare to get your ass kicked. Prepare for struggle and prepare for a fight. It won’t be easy but knowing how to get out of a mess before you get in it is the key. Work, fail, repeat. One day it’ll work. There will always be critics. There will always be the ones who know it all and yet never enter. There will be losers and has beens and a bunch a never was. But if you wanna win sit with the winners, and leave the losing frame of mind out of the circle.”
