Golden Bond Rescue of Oregon

Golden Bond Rescue of Oregon Golden Bond Rescue of Oregon, Inc. is an all volunteer run, non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of Golden Retrievers & Retriever mixes

Goldens in need of new homes come from a variety of circumstances. Some come to us due to compelling family situations such as death, divorce, family illness, relocation or economic hardship. Other Goldens are released to rescue because of behavior problems due to lack of exercise and poor understanding of the needs of the breed. Like many rescue organizations, we offer the benefits of being able

to provide dogs who are already spayed or neutered, who have had a sound fundamental health examination, and whose temperament is fairly well known (since they have all lived with our foster families). Some of our dogs have not had a loving family in the past, but many have. Some may have behavioral problems, but many do not. And some need special medical care, just as most any dog will eventually. Many of our dogs need some level of training. All of our dogs need significant amounts of time, attention, patience, and love to adjust to their forever homes. Golden Bond Rescue is a resource for people who would like to give Golden Retrievers (or dogs that are mostly Golden) a second chance in life.

Molly would like to give an update and say thank you for everyone’s donations and well wishes. She really, really appreciates it!

She’s settled in with her foster mom and doing very well. She spends her mornings playin, but more sleeping in the afternoons. We are assuming her discomfort tires her out. We are on a cancel list to get into the specialist and are hoping that’ll be very soon. In the meantime, she has seen our regular vet and gotten some pain medication and was started on all the things to support her joints and growth.

We’ll update again when we see what surgery looks like (or just with cute pictures). 🥰

Sometimes rescue looks different than what we generally think of when we hear someone say " My dog is a rescue."

Today we want to introduce you to Molly who was surrendered due to major medical issues that prevented her owners from giving her the care that she needs. This was a heartbreaking decision for them, as she is only 6 months old. They noticed soon after they got her that something was not right and had her seen by the vet and then by a specialist who delivered the scary news. Molly has severe hip dysplasia/hip dislocation affecting both hips. She is in a lot of pain and at her age, surgery options are tricky, but no matter the route taken the expense is huge – likely $8K-10K to start. Only having her for a few months, they were not prepared for that. Calls to the breeder were ignored so they looked for options to help Molly. GBR quickly got to work coming up with a plan. Molly’s medical info was sent to a trusted surgeon who is looking to fit her into the schedule ASAP. She has been moved to a foster who has handled many surgery recoveries for GBR, and we are very anxious to get Molly living her best life.

Molly is a reminder that sometimes rescue means selflessly doing what is the hardest thing someone may have had to do for the good of the dog.

BD or Big Dog is just that – about 100+ lbs of solid beautiful black lab who DESPERATELY needs a foster home. He’s currently in Grand Ronde, OR and is living in a converted barn with a man who is helping out a friend who can't keep him anymore, but this person is barely keeping his own life together and is not in the position to keep BD.

BD is about a 2-3 year old neutered male. His life has been chaotic, and he’s had little training, but he's a good dog. He has lived with other dogs and likes other dogs, but he’s big and needs time to get acquainted with both people and dogs since he hasn't been socialized much. He will need vet work as he hasn’t had any, and currently he’s limping from some hind leg injury that needs to be evaluated. Even so, he absolutely loves going on hikes in the woods. He is house trained, has some leash training, knows a few commands, and is a calm dog in the house. He probably shouldn’t be in a home with cats owing to a pet drive for outside critters. He’s never been crated and travels well in a car.

BD is a loving, happy dog with a fun personality and is very loyal. He's looking for a second chance. Can you help?

If you would be interested in helping BD, please contact Kay Yates, [email protected].

Steve #3758, a 7 year old Lab mix, is doing great in foster care but he sure would love to be in his forever home. Foster mom describes him as "85 pounds of pure love." Some dogs make him anxious, and while he's making good progress with training, the anxiety can result in some leash reactivity, so he'd be best placed as an only dog. He'll make an awesome companion. Might that person be you?

UPDATE: GREAT NEWS! A POTENTIAL FOSTER SAW THIS POST AND WENT AND MET SALT AND THEY HIT IT OFF SO HE IS NOW IN FOSTER CARE!!!!! THANKS FOR SHARING! IT TAKES A VILLAGE. We're reaching out to our Retriever loving community in search of a foster or foster adopt home for 4 year old Golden/Jindo mix Salt 3602. Salt needs a foster home without any other dogs. Cats should be okay. He needs a home with no young kids as they make him nervous.

DETAILS: Originally a South Korean dog, Salt's owners recently made the very difficult decision to return him GBR due to the doggie dynamics in their home. They described him as a "magical" dog, but the energy and voice levels of the two resident goldens (a male and a female) in the household were making it increasingly difficult for Salt to cope without getting into scuffles with them. Training and anti-anxiety meds helped some, but Salt truly needs and deserves to be in a home where he is the only dog so he can be happy and relaxed and get all the attention.

The good news is that Salt gets along fine with other dogs he meets on walks and at doggy daycare, and is not at all aggressive. And he’s been fine with the family cat. Salt loves to go on walks and hikes and does quite well on leash, but he should definitely be kept on leash as he likes to run and chase. He is not destructive, he travels well, is crate trained, is good in the house and knows basic commands.

Salt is currently being boarded at a wonderful place near Portland, Oregon and is doing very well there. He can be a bit anxious, but he’s also fun, enjoying the staff, going for walks, and getting attention. He hasn’t reacted to other dogs around him. That being said, we would really like to get him into a home environment.

Can you help? Would you like to meet Salt? Please contact Kay Yates ([email protected]) for more information.

AND AS ALWAYS PLEASE SHARE THIS POST. IT TAKES A VILLAGE.
