Long overdue update- I now can confirm that I have one male and three females. I will not attempt to breed them until next summer at the earliest due to the ages of the females and the stress it can put a young axie through. I will be getting things ready up until that point and will start documenting the breeding process. Until then, wish me luck!

Update: I'm down to 2 larvae and one is looking like he's on the outs. I think the other may make it, as he does seem to be strong swimmer and also seems to be eating. I don't know if a 1:25 survival rate is good or bad, but I will be changing some of my containers and working on food source options. It will be awhile before I can sell any animals, or even give them away. My breeding stock is still a ways off from any kind of egg laying. And since they're still mostly juveniles, when they do, I don't know how well their first attempts will be. I will keep trying and learning, and hopefully have something to share in the future!

Not going well with the little guys. Only 4 left and trying to learn what I've done wrong. I think heat was a factor, but that's easy enough to counter. I also think it might be the food. I thought I was doing good with the brine shrimp, but I think they are spoiling and fouling the water. I expect to be down to 3 tonight, but fingers crossed that they're all right...

Bad news-7 of my larvae were dead when I got home from work. There was a slick on the top of the water they were in. I don't know what it was, but I've gone to using brand new containers so there is no more mystery as to what could have been in there. I tried to separate my containers before hand, but they all look alike. I think I mixed one that was cleaned with soap and not rinsed thoroughly enough for water pets in on accident. Poor little guys! I feel awful about it!

Trying to feed these things. I'm hoping they're eating, they only seem to do it when I'm not looking! Here's one container with an interesting looking one. The net was an idea that I've since stopped doing. But like I've said, this is a trial run so experimentation is the point. I'm not failing, I'm learning!

Getting things ready for axolotl start-up packages. My goal is that you pick up the tank, preferably 20 gal or larger (but 10 hal is ok for a temp juvenile home), a cover, an air pump and hose, and some sort of hide on your own (Most recommend 2 hides to reduce stress. A couple of large pvc elbows work great, but whatever you prefer). I will have a small dual sponge filter, a thermometer, a small artificial plant, 3 river rocks and a water tribble(a larger sized marimo moss ball, trying to have a little fun with this!) All will have been seeded with the bacteria for the biological filtration process. In my experience, tanks have taken up to a month and a half before they were ready for habitation without any boost from already seeded materials. I can't guarantee that the tank will cycle with my products, but I'm hoping it will help speed things up and you'll have everything needed for the basics. In the future, maybe I will include hides and more plants. My intention is to include an axolotl in the deal, but as of yet, I have no animals for sale. When things are ready, I will post pricing and pics of what you would get. Stay tuned!

20 total larvae. 3 eggs had yet to hatch last night, but 1 came out this morning to my surprise. I thought they might have been dead, but I guess not. I'll keep trying to encourage the others 2 for a day or so, but I fear the worst. I'll get some pics soon, assuming my inexperience doesn't kill them all while I'm at work! I'm going to alter my feeding of them as I think I'm fouling their water for too long how I'm doing it now. The daphnia are coming soon, but until then, it's baby brine shrimp and my attempt at rinsing them. What have I gotten myself into!

20 of 25 have hatched, only lost one. 2 I'm keeping an eye on and going to assist the 5 remaining eggs tonight or tmrw morning. Trying to figure out this brine shrimp thing. I worry that I don't rinse well enough, or that they're mostly dead and I'm just fouling up the water. I was supposed to receive daphnia(water fleas) for a food source from Ebay, but got white worms instead from the seller for some odd reason. Guessing an honest mix up, but I kinda wanted them as an alternative. Waiting for a response for a solution. Might have to get black worms and chop them up. It's just very inconvenient for me though due to where I'm located. This is why I'm experimenting with 25 so when my guys start laying eggs, I'll know what to expect and be prepared.
