UPDATE: I believe I have my lucky three however if you are still interested comment below as backups in case something comes up or the horses aren't what I need. Thank you everyone for sharing, commenting, and liking!

Hello horse owners! I'm looking for THREE horses to practice my cupping skills on. This will be a FREE service to you, however, I do have some requirements for horses/ owners.

1. Owner must be willing to take photos/ video during the session and share them with me.

2. I must have horses with SHORT fur. Clipped, blanketed, show horses would be perfect! Nothing against the wooly mammoths (mine are) but the cups won't stick and do their job!

3. Patience/ no time constraints. I will have several specific questions for the owner to answer prior to working on the horse. And remember I am practicing so it may take longer than a normal session. I am required to do a lot of documentation so that I can pass my class.

What is Cupping you may ask?

Myofascial decompression therapy aka
cupping is a form of massage therapy which decompresses soft tissues using vacuum suction.

Why Would I Use Cupping?

~Release fascial adhesions
~Remodel scar tissue
~Reduce painful trigger point
~improve circulation, (blood and lymph)
~Relieve pain
~Promote mobility and range of motion
~Improve mature scars

When Not to Cup?

~Blood thinners
~Fragile skin
~Cancer
~Skin trauma
~Blood disorder

What is "puzzle hair"?

When we talk about "puzzle hair", we are referring to a coat anomaly also known as "crushed velvet" or "watered silk". Patches of hair grow in a different direction compared to the horse's usual smooth coat. This creates a noticeable pattern that resembles velvet or watered silk fabric. The pattern doesn't disappear when the coat is wetted or brushed, indicating it's a difference in hair growth direction rather than simply ruffled hair. It's often more noticeable in the summer coat, and may disappear during the winter.

Here is a list of Potential Causes:

UNDERLYING HEALTH ISSUES: In mature horses, it can be a symptom of underlying conditions such as Lyme disease and PSSM. One anecdote even links its disappearance to successful Lyme disease treatment.

FASCIAL TENSION: It's also linked to fascial tension and soreness in the body.

HEAT STRESS: Some horses develop this pattern in response to heat stress. Anhidrosis in horses, also known as "non-sweaters" or "dry coats," is a condition where horses have a reduced or absent ability to sweat. This can significantly impact their ability to regulate body temperature, especially in hot and humid temperatures.

ALLERGIES: If it appears in conjunction with allergies to insects or pollen, it might be allergy-related.

GROWING PAINS: In foals and young horses, it may be associated with growth spurts and fascial tension.

If you observe "puzzle hair" on your horse, it's recommended to consult with a veterinarian to rule out any underlying health concerns.
