The cases impacting our area (and our team!) make it clear: we need to go back to curbside for a while. This decision was not made lightly — but is one made in service to the whole community… if we don’t take care of each other, we won’t be able to take care of the pets who need us. We appreciate your understanding and support. 🧡

Due to overwhelming staff shortages occurring this morning, we are unable to open the Pet Townsend Veterinary Clinic today (Monday 12/27), and we apologize for how this might impact our community. Existing veterinary appointments will be contacted for rescheduling and/or moving to our Chimacum Valley Veterinary Hospital location — which will be open 8-5 today. Take care everyone, stay safe and warm out there.

We wish you all a safe and warm holiday season. The following are our upcoming holiday hours, as well as two emergency clinics you might call if your pet needs care over the upcoming closures. (We will be open regular hours on NYE.) Happy holidays, everyone. ✨

Our sweet clinic cat, Dr. Watson, patiently watches the team, as they skillfully keep everything running at our hospitals. Veterinary hospitals around the country (and beyond) have been incredibly busy in this pandemic wave of our collective experience… it’s been a whole thing! Thanks to all those clients who see our passion for what we do, who support us and our mission (to foster animal *and* human wellness) and who honor our commitments to our work. We will keep doing our best, keep learning, and perhaps most importantly — keep taking care of each other, so that we can keep taking care of our community. 🧡💙🧡

With mixed emotions, the doctors and staff at Chimacum Valley Veterinary Hospital and Pet Townsend Veterinary Clinic wish to share that Dr. Chris Frank has made the decision to retire from veterinary medicine on June 24th. We are a family here at CVVH and PTVC, and although he will remain a big part of our lives, we will miss spending time with him day after day. Over the past decade, Dr. Frank has had an immense impact on this hospital — supporting his co-workers, listening to his clients with endless compassion, and practicing medicine with an impressive and intuitive understanding of what his patients need. We know his clients and patients will be equally sorry to see him go, yet we wish Dr. Frank the very best in his new life adventures!

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Rae Hamblin to our Chimacum Valley Veterinary Hospital & Pet Townsend Veterinary Clinic team!

Dr. Rae Hamblin is joining our team at Chimacum Valley Veterinary Hospital mid June. She has special interests in feline medicine, internal medicine, and geriatrics. She loves solving complicated medical problems and supporting the bond between pets and their families throughout their lives. She especially enjoys working with families to support the health and quality of life of her patients as they age.
Dr. Rae grew up near Seattle and received her BAS in Biological Sciences from Evergreen State College in 2013. She graduated with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2017. She is a member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners and has earned their Cat-Friendly Veterinarian Certificate. She is also a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Washington State Veterinary Medical Association. She is excited to be starting the certification program in Veterinary Chinese Herbal Medicine through the Chi Institute.

A lifelong animal lover, Dr. Rae grew up training and showing dogs in 4H and AKC, cleaning stalls in exchange for horseback riding lessons, volunteering with a feline rescue organization, and cleaning cages at a parrot store. She has been working in the veterinary field since 2012, first as an intern for a mobile large animal practice and then as an assistant at a small animal emergency clinic. She began her work as a veterinarian working in an animal shelter but transitioned to private practice because she wanted to be able to build longer lasting relationships with her patients.

Dr. Rae lives in Sequim with her partner K, pointer mix Brier, and three house cats Kazul, Brigan, and Saturday. She spends much of her free time working on their house and property under strict supervision by their small colony of feral barn cats. She also spends a lot of time training, playing, exploring, and hiking with Brier, who aspires to graduate to running and backpacking buddy when she grows up. Dr. Rae also enjoys reading, listening to podcasts, snuggling with her kitties, and watching the “cat cam” in the barn.

We are thankful that Dr. Hamblin has joined our team!

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Kristen Rooker who joined our Chimacum Valley Veterinary Hospital & Pet Townsend Veterinary Clinic team at the beginning of June!

Dr. Kristen Rooker knew from a young age she wanted to work with animals when she grew up which drew her to the field of veterinary medicine. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in biology from Bridgewater College (located in the Shenandoah Valley, which is where she fell in love with mountains), then went on to receive her DVM from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech. She enjoys all aspects of general practice but has a special interest in animal behavior and training.

Because of Dr. Rooker’s love of mountains, she was drawn to Washington’s beautiful mountainous landscape and outdoor lifestyle. She admittedly loves life on the West Coast!
When not in the clinic, she is usually outdoors - hiking, doing volunteer trail maintenance with WA Trails Association, or skiing. She is also an avid reader and enjoys knitting and crocheting. She shares her house with Dodger the terrier mix.
