Training session with Hershey today 🚗😊 We worked on getting in and out of the car all by herself. Hershey is a Great Dane mix and way too big for mom to keep lifting her!

It always makes me laugh when dogs can launch themselves onto a bed or couch without a second thought, but when it’s time to get in the car, suddenly their legs stop working. 🤔

Well, Hershey’s legs finally remembered what they’re for today! After a little practice and some extra motivation, she was hopping into the backseat like a pro 😉❤️

Meet Eliza 🩷

She’s a 10 month old Basset Hound. Super gentle, super loving, and also a little timid with
men, loud noises, and sudden movements.

My dog Sandler stepped in as the helper and made her feel more at ease pretty quickly. And being a greyhound… he definitely put more pep in her step and got her moving faster 🤣

Going forward, we’re going to work on desensitization, socialization, and building her confidence so she can feel more comfortable in her world. With dogs like her, it’s all about going at their pace. Simply letting her get to know me, and making a new dog friend is a great first step 🙂

When I first started working with Hershey, walks felt more like being pulled by a freight train 😅 Her strong prey drive definitely didn’t make things easier either!

Fast forward just 5 sessions, and she’s now walking nicely on a loose leash, ignoring squirrels and lizards, and coming back when called 🙌

We’ve also made great progress on her basic commands, door manners (no more darting!), jumping, and play biting.

If you’re dealing with similar challenges, I’d love to help your dog too 🫶🏻
