🎆 Happy 4th of July from Sandpiper Animal Hospital! 🎆🇺🇸
As we gear up for fireworks, BBQs, and family fun, let’s not forget that this holiday can be frightening and even dangerous for our pets. 🐶🐱 Fireworks and loud noises can cause severe stress, and even lead to pets running away.
Here are some Veterinarian-Approved Pet Safety Tips to help your furry companions stay calm and safe:
🔹 BEFORE the Fireworks:
✅ Exercise Early: Give your dog a good walk earlier in the day to burn off energy.
✅ Secure ID Tags & Microchips: Make sure your pet's identification is current in case they get scared and run off.
✅ Talk to Us: If your pet suffers from noise anxiety, contact us about calming supplements or medications in advance.
✅ Set Up a Safe Zone: Prepare a quiet, cozy space away from windows with their favorite toys and bedding.
🔹 DURING the Fireworks:
🔒 Keep Pets Indoors: Even outdoor-loving pets should stay inside once the fireworks begin.
🔇 Close Curtains & Windows: Muffle the sounds and block out the flashes.
📺 White Noise Works: Turn on calming music, the TV, or a white noise machine.
❌ Avoid Taking Pets to Firework Events: Even the calmest pet can panic in unfamiliar, loud settings.
🍔 Watch the Food: Keep human foods, alcohol, and grill scraps away from pets—many can be toxic.
🔹 AFTER the Celebration:
🔍 Check Your Yard: Look for and remove firework debris that could be dangerous if chewed.
🐾 Monitor for Stress Symptoms: Watch for pacing, drooling, shaking, hiding, or accidents in the house. If symptoms continue, call us.
🎇 Reminder: We’re here if you need help managing your pet’s stress or if you notice unusual behavior after the holiday. Don’t hesitate to call Sandpiper Animal Hospital for support or advice!
