Important Information Regarding Feline Panleukopenia Virus (FVP) ๐Ÿšจ

Our community of St. Lucie County is experiencing a rise in cats and kittens displaying symptoms of Feline Panleukopenia Virus (FVP). FVP is spread between felines through bodily fluids and waste (like vomit and f***s), and infected surfaces like litterboxes, blankets, and towels.

Symptoms of FVP include loss of appetite, diarrhea (may be bloody), lethargy or weakness, not drinking enough water or dehydration, and weight loss. If your cats are displaying these symptoms, seek veterinary care immediately. FVP is serious and can be fatal. If you are caring for cats and kittens, frequent disinfection and hand-washing are encouraged.

We urge you to look for signs of FVP before bringing an outdoor cat or kitten into your home. Residents of the City of Port St. Lucie should call 911 if they suspect an outdoor cat or kitten has FVP. The cat or kitten will receive prompt veterinary care via Port St. Lucie Animal Control.
