I don't like to be "that person", but today I'm going to be that person. I follow a LOT of animal rescue pages on Facebook and get so frustrated when a euth-listed dog is posted and the comments start filling up with:

"I'll take him!"
"I wish I could!"
"I'll adopt!"
..from people who live 1,000 or 2,000 miles away with no realistic way of getting the dog.

I know these comments come from a place of compassion, but they don't help that dog.

What they do is push comments from local adopters, fosters, transport coordinators, and rescues farther down the thread. They create false hope, and they can make it harder for the people who are actually trying to coordinate a lifesaving plan.

If you live in Michigan and the dog is in Florida, saying "I'll take him!" without a plan doesn't help the dog in the next few hours.

A more helpful response is:
❤️ Share the post.
❤️ Tag rescues in that area.
❤️ Offer to sponsor adoption or rescue fees.
❤️ Volunteer to help with transport if a plan comes together.
❤️ If you're serious about adopting across the country, contact the shelter or rescue directly and ask what is realistically possible.

Every minute counts for these dogs. Comments should be part of the solution instead of adding noise to an already chaotic situation.

The dogs don't need hundreds of promises in the comments. They just need one workable plan to save their life.

The shelter where I've been volunteering for over 8 years, the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast, will be receiving an emergency intake of animals from this hoarding case in Stuart.

Here is a list of needed items: towels, small fleece blankets, wet and dry food (cat and dog), and here are ways to get the items to the shelter:

A 77-year-old Martin County woman was arrested after authorities found more than 70 caged cats and an undetermined number of dogs in her home, in what the sheriff described as the worst case of animal hoarding he has seen in the county.

I did a quick early Sunday morning transport with Winston. He is an 8 month old Dalmatian whose owner could no longer keep him due to their medical issues.

He is a little shy around strangers at first, but warms up quickly. He rides well in the car and is curious about everything going on around him. He can be "chatty", we had a nice conversation on the ride between Fort Drum and Port St Lucie. He walks pretty well on the leash, and understands why he's being walked in the grass - he does his business.

🚗 Sunday's Assignment: Transport 5 Uncrated Puppies

You know those warning labels that say, "Do not attempt"?

Yeah...yesterday was basically that.

And yeah, I signed up to transport, but I THOUGHT they'd be traveling with a crate, and didn't know they'd be wearing breakaway collars!

But here's the funny part - this wasn't my first ride with these pups. Two months ago I transported their mom while they were all still tiny passengers inside her belly. At that time, I only had Molly to keep track of. Yesterday? Five puppies and one very different level of chaos! 😂

Within the first five minutes:
🐾 One wanted to be my co-pilot
🐾 One thought the back seat floorboard was an exciting new world
🐾 The leashes looked like someone tried to knit a sweater while riding a roller coaster
🐾 Two of the puppies were engaged in what I can only assume was an intense debate over just how charming puppy breath is

It was loud.
It was chaotic.
It was hilarious.
It was heartwarming.
It was also bittersweet - their mom Molly left the transport in Vero Beach with her adopters, and the puppies continued on south.

Their day started very early in Savannah GA and through a chain of generous transporters, the puppies traveled all the way south to their destination of Miami and Dalmatian Rescue of South Florida. So all things considered, these sweet puppies were good sports under some tiring and exciting circumstances.

After we got on the road they all fell asleep pretty quickly in a sweet puppy pile and miraculously, everyone arrived safely - no puppies were lost under the seats, and I somehow managed to keep my sanity.

Pink Girl 🩷, Blue Boy💙, and Orange Boy 🧡are still searching for their forever families and are available for adoption through Dalmatian Rescue of South Florida. These sweet pups have been well-socialized with dogs, cats, kids, car rides, vet visits, and all the chaos that comes with a busy household. They are ready to bring lots of love, laughter, and puppy kisses to their future homes. ❤️

🐾🐾 Double Dog Delivery Day! 🐾🐾

My first transport of the day was Grinch. His day started in Tamarac, and I drove him from Port St Lucie to the Fort Drum turnpike plaza to meet the next leg of his transport. His final destination was Bushnell, just north of Orlando. Grinch did not get off to the best start in life, he is high energy with some anxiety, and needs an adopter who is familiar with his breed's traits and tendencies. He is available for adoption through Boston Terrier Rescue of Florida.

My second transport of the day was Oakley. His day started in Cape Coral, and had stops in Okeechobee and Fort Pierce, before I delivered him to his foster in Melbourne. Oakley is approximately 5 years old and was found as a stray in Miami. He rides perfectly in the car, is housebroken, and ready for a new family. He is working through some skin issues, but is available for adoption through Florida Coastal Cocker Rescue.
