💦☀️ Pool Days & Water Safety ☀️💦

Spending the day by the pool is a Florida favorite—but did you know that drinking too much water while playing can be dangerous for your pet?

🌊 Dogs who fetch toys, bite at splashes, or gulp pool water while swimming are at risk for water intoxication—a rare but serious condition that can cause:

⚠️ Lethargy
⚠️ Vomiting
⚠️ Weakness or stumbling
⚠️ Seizures
⚠️ Swelling of the belly

To stay safe:
✅ Offer plenty of breaks
✅ Provide fresh drinking water
✅ Limit repetitive water retrieval games
✅ Watch for signs of bloating or odd behavior

If you’re concerned your pet may have ingested too much water, don’t wait—emergencies can escalate quickly.

If your pup drinks too much Gulf water, it can lead to saltwater toxicity—causing vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, and even seizures.

⚠️ Watch for:
• Excessive drooling

These toxic toads love the wet weather and can be deadly if your pet licks or bites one.

⚠️ Signs to watch for:
🐾 Foaming at the mouth
🐾 Seizures
🐾 Trouble breathing
🐾 Collapse

If exposed, rinse your pet’s mouth with water immediately—side to side, not down the throat—and head to us ASAP!

Keep pets indoors during and after storms, and always supervise outdoor time.

The ER can be a tough place. It’s filled with high emotions, tough decisions, long hours, and moments that stay with us long after the shift ends. For our team, it means working through heartbreak and hope—often all in the same hour.

But we know it’s even harder on you. Being in an emergency with your beloved pet is scary, overwhelming, and sometimes devastating. We see that weight in your eyes, and we carry it with you.

That’s why when a client sends us flowers, a card, or even just a kind word—it means everything. It reminds us why we do this.

“What really happens when we take your dog ‘in the back’ 🐾💙”

We know it can feel scary when we ask to bring your pet to the treatment area without you—but we promise, it’s not a secret club back there (unless you count the treat stash 😉).

Most of the time, while we’re checking vitals or running tests, your pup is getting snuggled, talked to in silly voices, or even playing with a tech who’s fallen in love at first wag.

Triage is all about making sure your pet gets prompt care, and sometimes that means a quick trip to the back where our team can safely and efficiently get started. We’ll always treat your dog like our own—with love, kindness, and plenty of ear rubs.
