House of Funny Chins

8 years ago we took in an owner surrender that had been through multiple homes. He was a non pick me up kinda guy, that did like his ear and chin scritches from his adopted father of chins, but not from mother of chins. At the time we estimated his age at 10-12 years old.

Today marks the passing of our little Pika dude. Somewhere around 20 years old, he passed in father of chins arms receiving the affectionate scritches that he loved. Rest In Peace, little fluffy guy… me and my broken heart will miss you.

A terrific weekend.
Saturday December 7th was the NW Branch Annual Chinchilla Show.
We received two Reserve Class Champions and one Class Champion rosette. We also placed 3rd for a Breeder Award- we got a trophy for that one..
We got home today - after a couple of hours home, Ms Sophia and Felix presented us with this lil guy.
Glad she waited until I got home.

Coincidentally, one of the Reserve Class Champions was Sophia’s son.

Peter and Phoebe - hetero beiges from Craner gave us this lovely lady this morning.
She’s the only one in the litter and weighed in at 68 grams. She was at 69 when I got home from work this evening.
Bless the moms that have no trouble producing milk.
I hate hand feeding with a passion.

Three bonded females are looking for a new home.
2 standards and a hetero beige.
They have been boarded with us since last summer- the owner has long since ceased communication and I would like these girls to find a forever home.
Because I would like to see these girls remain together- we are asking for experienced applicants.
Located in (Port Orchard) Western Washington.

Fiona had a rough day - heck.. Rusty Rake Chinchillas is having a rough day.
Fiona delivered 3 kits today but only this feisty little girl survived.
Welcome to the world R5- 42 grams.
Sophia lost one of her boys this morning (the smaller of the boys).. we suspect a freak accident of some sort. I hope to know more in the coming days.
If you’ve ever considered breeding - please know that though the rewards are rich.. it’s also fraught with tragedy as well. Most breeders see about a 25% casualty rate on average.
