Many people bring their pets to the beach, but not all owners are aware of the risks their animals face in this environment. During busy beach days, pets can easily become overheated, dehydrated, or exposed to hazards that owners may overlook. Here are just some of those risk factors.
• Ensure pets have access to shade, fresh water, and rest.
• Reduce incidents of pets getting lost or injured.
• Promote responsible behavior around wildlife and other beachgoers.
• Be sure to bring leashes, collapsible water bowls, and pet ID tags.
• Report any incidents to either PD or the Animal Shelter.
• Ensure your pet is up to date on vaccines, especially the Rabies vaccine, and carry that on your person.
• Refrain from letting your pet ingest sand and salt water, as that can cause GI distress to your pet, and in some cases, more extensive issues.
• Ensure your pet stays on a leash and keep close supervision.
