We are accredited- AGAIN!

To achieve AAHA accreditation, a veterinary hospital will volunteer to be evaluated. They must meet or exceed hundreds of standards covering all aspects of veterinary care and business. These standards are continually updated to keep pace with advancements in veterinary medicine, ensuring that accredited hospitals remain at the forefront of the profession.

A special shoutout to Kyla for her dedication throughout this process. Her hard work leading up to our evaluation and her commitment to keeping our standards high after play a huge role in this achievement!

Congratulations to the entire team on this. We couldn't have done it without each and every one of you and are so, so proud!

Today is World Pet Memorial Day. While there are many days to remember our beloved pets who have passed, this is just a reminder that they will forever live in our memories. Feel free to share a story of a passed pet here if you're comfortable. We love to hear the stories 💚

This is Pete! Pete went missing two whole years ago, and his mom never gave up hope. Then one day recently a vet clinic in Sequim called because someone brought in what they thought was a stray to scan for a chip. It was Pete! He is now back home with his mom for a long overdue reunion. We are sharing Pete's story in the hopes that the happy ending will encourage others to make sure their pets are chipped and registered.

⚠️IMPORTANT NOTICE ⚠️
Good morning, everyone! We wanted to take a moment to update our previous post regarding coughing dogs in the area. We received the results from the Respiratory Disease panel completed on one of our coughing patients and that panel was positive for Canine Adenovirus Type 2 and Canine Respiratory Coronavirus.

This is not the same coronavirus that humans can get as it IS species specific. Canine respiratory coronavirus is spread mainly through direct dog-to-dog contact and by inhalation of airborne viral particles from coughing or sneezing of infected dogs.

Canine Adenovirus Type 2
Adenovirus is transmitted by direct contact with infected dogs, through inhalation of the virus and contact with contaminated water bowls, toys, etc. There is a vaccination to help protect against this viral infection that is usually administered during the puppy vaccine series and then boostered yearly or every 3 years depending on vaccination status.

Since these are viral diseases there is no direct treatment, but medications can be given to control the clinical signs associated with the infection. Severely affected dogs may require hospitalization and treatment of secondary bacterial infections.

Symptoms to look out for:

Dry hack/ cough
Gagging/retching
Nasal and ocular discharge
Mild fever and lethargy
Sneezing
Decreased appetite

If you notice any of these symptoms with your dogs, please stay away from dog parks, doggy daycare, self dog washing stations, pet stores and any public play area for pups.

There has been an outbreak of coughing dogs in the area, many of which frequent both the Port Angeles and Sequim dog park. We would like to ask owners to PLEASE keep your pets home if they are experiencing any coughing or changes in bark in order to get this outbreak to pass as quickly as possible. We will share more information when we have it.
