It is with heavy hearts we share the news that last week we said goodbye to one of the best bunnies there ever was, a fixture of AEAHG almost from the beginning, our hospital rabbit Red. He came to us early on, destined to be a breeder of meat rabbits, but he was injured by another male and required an emergency neuter. He became an education bunny and was the absolute BEST at it. He may have been a little territorial of his cage, but he never minded being held or handled and loved head pets. He taught so many employees, tech students, and vet students over the years how to handle rabbits, draw blood, take X-rays, you name it. We always joked that was part of the deal for the free room and board! He LOVED food more than anything, and Dr. Wilkinson and he shared a very close bond, based on years of eating the end of her banana from her lunch almost every day ❤️ As an old meat rabbit, he’d been battling arthritis for a long time, and he developed a thymoma (a type of tumor in the chest) about a year ago. He did great for a long time but at almost 10 years old his body had finally had enough, but he maintained his amazing personality to the end. Please excuse us if you see a few tears during rabbit appointments for a bit, it’s hard to imagine this place without him. Rest easy now buddy, we’ll miss you so much 💔
