It is with heavy hearts we share the news that last week we said goodbye to one of the best bunnies there ever was, a fixture of AEAHG almost from the beginning, our hospital rabbit Red. He came to us early on, destined to be a breeder of meat rabbits, but he was injured by another male and required an emergency neuter. He became an education bunny and was the absolute BEST at it. He may have been a little territorial of his cage, but he never minded being held or handled and loved head pets. He taught so many employees, tech students, and vet students over the years how to handle rabbits, draw blood, take X-rays, you name it. We always joked that was part of the deal for the free room and board! He LOVED food more than anything, and Dr. Wilkinson and he shared a very close bond, based on years of eating the end of her banana from her lunch almost every day ❤️ As an old meat rabbit, he’d been battling arthritis for a long time, and he developed a thymoma (a type of tumor in the chest) about a year ago. He did great for a long time but at almost 10 years old his body had finally had enough, but he maintained his amazing personality to the end. Please excuse us if you see a few tears during rabbit appointments for a bit, it’s hard to imagine this place without him. Rest easy now buddy, we’ll miss you so much 💔

So excited to finally share this! Dr. Miller, Dr. Wilkinson, and Will (along with the rest of the staff!) have been working with a group doing research on eastern diamondback rattlesnakes for a few years, and the first of hopefully several papers on their findings have been published! We feel so honored and grateful to have been a part of this project! Congrats Emily, Jayme, and the rest of your team on getting this important information out there!

Happy Reptile Awareness Day! We love our reptile patients!

🐍✨ Happy Reptile Awareness Day! 🦎🌿

Today, we honor our incredible reptilian patients and their vital role in biodiversity. From the delicate care of a chameleon’s metabolic needs to the complex management of a python’s respiratory health, reptiles require specialized knowledge and expertise in veterinary medicine.

Let’s also raise awareness on responsible reptile care, habitat conservation, and the critical role veterinarians play in ensuring their well-being. Together, we can continue advancing reptile medicine and protecting their ecosystems.

We have had so much fun spoiling our employees this week! This week is National Veterinary Technician Week where we recognize and celebrate that staff that keeps things running behind the scenes. Vet techs are the ones that do all the day to day patient care, give meds, educate pet owners, take X-rays, draw blood, run anesthesia, and keep the clinic running, clean, and organized. We could not do our jobs without them! So next time you are in the office be sure to thank our staff for the amazing job they do every day!

**PARROLETS LOOKING FOR A HOME**

A client of ours has 2 parrotlets looking for a new home. One is about 7 years old the other about 6, and they have been together for their entire lives since the younger one was introduced. Their genders are unknown but there has been no reproduction! Their cage, toys, and food would all be included.

Please call Joanne at 912-920-3396 (landline, no texts please) if you are interested in giving these great little birds a home!

Great information we wanted to pass along! We actually just saw a similar case this week from the same type of bulb, and it's just like the ones we used to see in 2009 from CFLs. Please don't hesitate to ask if you have questions about UVB for any of your reptile pets!
