Meet Curly, an American Bulldog who just arrived at Ponca City K9 yesterday with some serious challenges.
When he came in, he was reactive to everything—people, other dogs, you name it. Lunging, growling, barking… very protective of his kennel space. It’s the kind of behavior that not only creates liability for the owner but signals an unhealthy, insecure state of mind for the dog.
But what you’re seeing in this video? That’s just one day later.
We’re outside on the property, calmly working together. He’s learning that his old methods—intimidation, barking, bluffing—don’t work here. And maybe most importantly, he’s starting to build something new: trust in someone new.
Now don’t get me wrong—just because he’s showing progress doesn’t mean we throw caution to the wind. I’m still not bending down to give him kisses. I know dogs like Curly can change in a split second. That’s why I lead with calm, assertive energy, clear boundaries, and zero ego.
Reactivity like this doesn’t fix itself. But with the right training and a commitment to rebuilding how a dog sees the world, there is always hope—even when it seems like nothing else has worked.
