🌸Spring is in the air..... and soon the stink of Bradford pear will be, too!

Bradford pear is a cultivar of the species Pyrus calleryana, or Callery pear. It was marketed as a sterile version of the tree to be used for landscaping without the threat of spreading. However, other cultivars of Callery pear similar to Bradford pear were also created, and while these trees are unable to pollinate individuals within their same cultivar they can cross-pollinate with individuals of other cultivars. Thus, the takeover of the Bradford pear!

Bradford pears are considered detrimental to the environment for a variety of reasons. Not only are they aggressive invasive trees that can easily out-compete native species, but they are also extremely fragile trees that break easily and cause potential safety hazards. And don't even get us started on their smell! The best way to take care of these trees is to cut them at the base and apply a layer of herbicide to prevent any resprouting.

Around this time of year, you will start to see many white blooming trees. Often times, these are Bradford pear - BUT it is important to recognize that we have a TON of great native trees that are also blooming a beautiful white. Some species to note as spring develops include Flowering Dogwood, Serviceberry, Fringetree, and American Plum. Which of these trees is your favorite???

The time is coming....

These chunkers will be two weeks old tomorrow. We have our first family and hunting partners coming over this evening to choose their pick of the litter. The puppies will be ready for their furever homes the week of April 7th so get ready because it will be here before we know it. They are getting claimed fast so if you are wanting a great hunting and family dog these puppies are for you. We own a female from our first litter with the same dam and sire, she is one of the best dogs around. She has been easily trainable with a drive to hunt for and please her people.
