***Stray Rescue***

We have a 24 hour stray hold for adult dogs. After the 24 hours, adults will be vaccinated and a reclaim fee will be added. Puppies are vaccinated upon entry and an immediate reclaim fee is added.

If you do NOT claim your pet in 72 hours, the said pet becomes ours and will be spayed/neutered and placed up for adoption.

So please, if you're missing your pet, come in or call us ASAP.

-If you find a stray, PLEASE call the shelter ahead of time before bringing him/her in.

-If you're missing a pet and don't see them here, please call us so we can fill out a report.

-You can also send the missing or found pet's info and picture to our page.

**Microchipping**

We can microchip your pet at the shelter for $35. It is a simple procedure and the microchip shows your emergency contact information when scanned by a vet clinic or shelter. This ensures your pet can be reunited in case it becomes lost! We highly recommend this in addition to a collar and up-to-date ID tags.

After a LONG wait and so many hopeful days, our sweet boy Bossy has finally found his forever home. 💙

Bossy came to us with a big bark, a big personality, and an even bigger heart. He wasn't always the easiest dog to look past at first glance-he had some quirks, some barriers, and needed someone willing to truly see him. And because of that, he waited... and waited... and waited some more.

But we never stopped believing his person was out there.

Behind that "tough guy" front was one of the most loving, loyal souls we've ever known. A dog who just wanted to be close, who would sit at your feet just to feel near you, who loved water, love, and life with his whole heart. The kind of dog who doesn't just become a pet-he becomes your everything.

Watching him leave with his new family was one of those moments that fills your heart and breaks it at the same time. We are so incredibly happy for him, and so proud of how far he's come.

Dogs like Bossy remind us why it's important to give long-term shelter pets-and even the "more difficult' ones-a chance. They are often the ones with the deepest love to give. They just need someone patient enough to unlock it.

Thank you to the family who saw him, chose him, and gave him the life he's been waiting for. And to Bossy... you were worth every single day. We'll miss you more than you know. Go live your best life, sweet boy. 🐾

🎉Zuri has found her forever home!! 🤍🎉

This gentle girl has always had a quiet way about her-happy to soak up love when it's given, but never one to demand the spotlight. With her soft spirit, playful curiosity, and sweet nature, she's been such a special soul to know.

We're so happy she's finally where she belongs-safe, loved, and home.

Wishing you the most beautiful life, Zuri.

You deserve every bit of it.🐾

***Foster***

MVAS is the only animal shelter between Missoula and Kalispell, along with two small rescues (Lifesavers Animal Rescue and All Hearts Rescue). We serve a largely rural, resource-strapped and reservation community where the number of homeless, abandoned, surrendered, stray and breeding animals regularly exceeds our facility’s capacity. Without a robust foster-care network, we would be forced to turn away animals regularly. The benefits of foster care for shelter animals are immense.

They include:

* Protecting immuno-deficient puppies, kittens and seniors from the high-risk shelter environment.
* Freeing up kennel and cage space for animals we would otherwise have to turn away.
* Socializing animals (especially puppies and kittens) with children and other animals.
* Giving kennel-stressed animals a respite from the anxiety of shelter life.
* Bringing joy and fulfillment to the foster home family.
* Giving the foster animal free promotion and the possibility of finding a new home through the foster family’s connections and efforts.
* Giving our staff some much-needed relief.
* Providing foster animals training and attention that they cannot consistently receive at the shelter.
* Providing a home environment to a homeless animal (especially at night) while it awaits adoption (often because it cannot be adopted until its spay/neuter appointment is available)

REQUIREMENTS
The one absolute requirement for fostering a shelter animal is up-to-date vaccination of resident animals (cats if you are fostering a cat, and dogs if fostering a dog). This includes the FVRCP and rabies vaccination for cats and the DAPP and rabies vaccination for dogs. In exceptional cases we may require Bordetella (kennel cough) vaccinations as well.

We require a foster application to be completed and approved to qualify for fostering. Once you have been approved, you will be added to our foster database, and we may contact you if we have foster needs. If you are interested in being considered for our foster program, please go to the "Foster Application” form and then read the Foster Agreement. In addition, you are asked to sign a foster contract each time you commit to fostering an animal.

The last requirement, and perhaps the most important, is simply a commitment to keep our animal safe, contained, well-loved and well-cared-for. Depending upon circumstances, this may sometimes require a securely fenced yard.

WHO CAN FOSTER?
We regularly send animals to foster in Missoula, Whitefish, Kalispell and farther, although in certain cases this is not practical. We cannot provide transportation, so we rely on foster families to pick up and deliver our foster animals when needed.

WHAT IS PROVIDED?
If needed, we will always provide everything you need for the care our animals for the duration of the foster period. This includes but is not limited to: food, crates, play pens, carriers, blankets, puppy pads, towels, sheets, bowls, toys, medication, etc.

FOSTER-WITH-INTENT
One special form of foster is taking an animal home on a trial basis to determine compatibility for adoption. This form of fostering is sometimes available (determined on a case-by-case basis). The requirements and paperwork are no different than those for our general foster program. In addition, a completed adoption application should be provided. With rare exceptions, foster-with-intent is usually available for no more than two weeks.

Foster-with-intent is sometimes used to expedite homing an animal when adoption is not yet available due to spay/neuter status. In these cases, assuming that the match is a good one, adoptions are finalized once the sterilization surgery has been completed.

THIS IS NOT KEVIN, THANK YOU!

🚨ATTENTION COMMUNITY!!🚨

This sweet border collie/Aussie mix has been hanging just North of Blue Bay on the east side of Flathead Lake (milepost 14) since around 3/27/26. He was sticking close to a property in the area, and while he stayed safe there for a time, he is now in our care at MVAS.
He is super sweet, and we know he has to belong to someone who is missing him.
If this is your dog or you have any information about where they belong, please contact Mission Valley Animal Shelter @406-883-5312. Let's help this sweet pup find their way back home.

Our hearts are so full right now 🧡

A huge, heartfelt THANK YOU to Murdoch's Ranch & Home Supply in Polson, for their incredible generosity in donating tons of cat and dog food to help support the animals in our care and the families in our community.

This isn't just food-it's full bowls, wagging tails, happy purrs, and a little less worry for pet owners who are doing their very best. It's the kind of kindness that ripples outward, touching so many lives in ways that are hard to put into words.

And we couldn't have don't it without Alan Fryslie, who stepped up as our transport hero to make sure all of this goodness made it safely to us. We're so grateful for your time and help!

There is something really special about local businesses and community members coming together to support one another. It's community taking care of community, and it means everything us.

From all of us (two-legged and four-legged alike) ... THANK YOU for showing up with such big hearts

Pluto has officially been adopted... and honestly, we're not sure if her new family knows what they just signed up for 🤣💞

This sweet little wild child lives for attention and plans to be the main character in every room she enters (as she should). Whether its zoomies, cuddles, or demanding all eyes on her, Pluto does it with charm and just a little bit of chaos.

We're so happy she found her forever home that can keep up with her big personality and even bigger heart. Congrats, Pluto-go run the show, girl 🐾✨
