Future puppy owners often aren’t sure whether they want a male or a female puppy. One of the most common sayings you’ll hear is:

“Females will love you, but males will be in love with you.”

While every dog is an individual, there are a few general differences that prospective owners may want to consider:

• We encourage owners to wait until at least 2 years of age before spaying or neutering. Because of this, female puppies will typically go through a couple of heat cycles before being spayed.

• In my personal experience, females tend to be a little easier and faster to potty train.

• Male Goldens are often known for their goofy, affectionate personalities and may be more likely to seek constant attention and cuddles.

• Females are often a bit more independent and mature more quickly, while still being incredibly loving companions.

At the end of the day, training and socialization have a far greater impact on your puppy’s development than gender alone. We strongly encourage families to begin training from day one. Consistent, short training sessions—about 10 to 15 minutes, three to four times per day—help establish good habits, build confidence, and create a strong bond between you and your puppy. Early structure and clear expectations set the foundation for a well-mannered companion for years to come.

We are currently seeking the perfect forever home for a 2-year-old male Golden Retriever.

He has successfully passed his OFA hip, elbow, heart, and eye clearances and is in excellent health with no known medical issues.

As is typical for a young Golden Retriever male, he is energetic, active, and thrives with regular exercise and engagement. He would do best with an individual or family that can provide him with the daily physical activity and attention he needs. Due to some uncertainty around other dogs, we feel his ideal home would be one where he is the only pet.

We are looking for a committed home that understands the needs of an active young Golden Retriever and can provide him with the structure, exercise, and companionship he deserves.
