A carrot in your hand and a soft cow nose in front of you can fix a whole week, and that’s what this recent review reminded us of. Female goats go into heat about every 21 days and it lasts about 24-48 hours. They become very talkative and…ahem…receptive to male attention.

On our farm, we have 9 does. So there’s generally not a day of the month that someone isn’t in heat, until they all start cycling together. Then it’s like a co-ed frat party during homecoming weekend, sans the beer kegs.
