Don’t worry! Despite the shutdown of the federal government, the horses are still getting stellar care.

The rangers are still required to work (without pay), so they are still coming in daily to care for the horses and the park.

Lets hope things gets sorted out, so everyone can get back to the work of protecting this amazing treasure. Political opinions not needed. 😬

Last week we were contacted by the cowboy that trained up Knight Hawk before he was sold to us. We always love connecting with our horses past and learning more about them. This is what he had to say…

“he found his person,purpose..which is always our hope for all of them..I am so grateful to have been fortunate enough to have handled him and now see how wonderful his life is!!!!….thank you so much for sharing these great pictures.”

You can check out Cowboy Clayton at Price Horsemanship!

The history of the ranch has spent the last 50+ years in the upstairs of the barn in rusty old cabinets. For the past several years Rangers have been going through it all, trying to sort it out and find the best ways to preserve it.

Yesterday, they met with the park Archivist to continue the process. Now that things are a little better sorted out they will continue to move things forward. Stay tuned, because along the way, we hope to show you some of the very cool tidbits they discovered.

Phew!😅 It was busy weekend for the Morgan’s!

Honcho and Gentry got fancy and wined and dined at the parks cooperating association largest fundraiser of the year.

Mira and Knight Hawk got dirty in backcountry for three days, spiked out at Wildcat Camp, doing preventative search and rescue, some trail maintenance, and patrolling the trails.

Earlier this week Rangers patrolled from the Ranch at Bear Valley down to the outdoor education center near Limantour. There they spoke with 9th graders from a local high school, discussing the “what’s” and “why’s” of their chosen professions. The MHR staff has always believed in building relationships with the local communities and our favorite part is that they did “ranger things” on their way there, clearing trails and contacting visitors.

Today Gentry and Mira had the very great honor of being involved in the naturalization ceremony held in the park. It’s always a moving experience to watch these new citizens being sworn in and the joy that emanates from both them and their families. Of course, there was a long line of people wanting their photos with the horses after the ceremony and the horses were more than happy to oblige!

Meet “Brian”.

Brian was a US Park Police (who are brothers and sisters to US Park Rangers) Mounted Patrol horse in Washington DC. He was donated to the USPP when he was 4 and worked many high profile events, including presidential inaugurations. After Brian died in 2014 he was brought to Santa Rosa Junior College to be used as a training resource.

Two weeks ago, a couple of park rangers got to “meet” Brian as they are taking an Equine Science course at the college. We always appreciate stories that showcase our interconnectedness. More on that to come!
