⚓️ Canyon Tuna Season Update ⚓️

After closely watching the weather and analyzing satellite sea surface temperature charts, Captain Bob has decided to officially wrap up our 2025 Canyon Tuna season.

The good water eddies that typically hold tuna in the Southern Canyons this time of year have shifted far offshore, putting the yellowfin and longfin out of range. While we know this is disappointing news, Captain Bob’s experience tells us it’s the right call.

🎣 What’s next:
We’re already looking ahead to offshore Sea Bass trips in late December and exciting Tilefish trips coming May 2026!

A huge thank you to everyone who fished with us this tuna season — we truly appreciate your support, enthusiasm, and great company on every trip. We can’t wait to fish with you again soon!

🎣 Fishing Report Update 🎣

Yesterday was one of those days where there wasn’t much to report — despite tons of good readings, the fish just weren’t interested.

Today? Completely different story.
Big bass and gator blues kept us busy all day, and our premium Okuma gear was put to the test. Most of today’s fish were caught on AVA jigs, proving once again that every day on the water brings something new.

As we said in our last update: these fish can be picky, so come prepared!

🎣 Fun Day with Bass! 🎣

What a blast today chasing monster-sized bass! The bite was on — bass were feeding on live bunker and Krocodile jigs. Some days they want the big jigs, some days it’s the live bait, and other days it’s the Ava 47s. Every trip is different, and these stripers can be picky, so come prepared with your jig arsenal — or grab what you need right from us on board! ⚓️

🎣Weekend Striper Report🎣

Saturday: Frustrating bite! Tons of great readings and fish rolling on the surface, but nothing seemed appetizing enough for them to commit.

Sunday: Totally different story — plenty of bent rods throughout the day! The fish were hitting jigs and shads hard. All big ones that had to go back, but the smiles said it all 😄.
We’re hopeful the keeper-sized and slot fish will start moving in soon (yes, we’ve got our bonus tags ready!) so we can put some tasty meals on the table.

After a hard northeast blow kept the Gambler tied to the dock for several days, we were gung-ho to get back offshore and back on the tuna bite. Unfortunately, the tunas had moved on from where we’d been fishing, and the bite was tough.

We covered both the flats and the Hudson Canyon proper, but neither area was producing. We stayed in contact with other boats spread out over a wide area — all reporting similar results.

There were promising signs of life, with working birds, porpoises, and solid bait readings, but no tuna takers. We tried several areas without success, then decided to push east when we spotted some interesting water. A long drift through the deep brought up a few squid, followed by two more drifts — though anchoring conditions weren’t ideal with too little wind and too much tide.

We did see a bit of action with a small sword (safely released) and a few blue sharks grabbing baits. After sunrise, we checked a few pots for mahi, but nobody was home.

To wrap up the trip, we set the anchor as the wind picked up. Those rigged for tilefishing dropped to the deep and managed about a dozen golden tiles to end on a good note.

A big thank-you to our customers for fishing hard, staying at the rail, and never losing hope. Hopefully, this is just a small lull in the season — we’ll be back out soon, ready to find those hungry tunas!

We returned yesterday from the same grounds as our last trip, but the results told a different story. The daytime bite was tough—we only landed a few tuna—but we did manage to pick off some mahi that swam through the slick at night. Not the haul we were hoping for, but the crew and anglers fished hard all the way through. That’s fishing for you!

We’ve got one more exotics trip heading out tomorrow morning (sold out). After that, we’re closely watching the offshore weather—once the next good window opens, we’ll be ready to get back out there. Stay tuned for updates!

First Tuna Trip Report
Our first tuna trip of the season came back last night with some beautiful yellowfin! 🎣 It was game on right away—once we got to the group, rods were bending and we boated some quality yellowfin before sunset to kick things off strong.

The night bite was slow, but as soon as the sun broke through the heavy clouds, the fish woke back up. The morning brought more of a scattered pick—not as fast and furious as the evening, but still enough action to keep us busy. A few fish were taken on UVT jigs as well as on the chunk bite. Jig fishing can be exhausting, but the adrenaline of that hit and fight is like no other! We always recommend bringing a few jigs—personal preference plays a role, but UVT jigs are tough to beat.

Along the way, we passed a large buoy and flag loaded with mahi mahi, which added even more excitement to the trip.

We also got to put our brand-new premium Okuma setups to the test—the 2-speed Makaira SEA 16 with its smooth drag is a total game changer. Couldn’t have asked for a better way to break them in!

Boat headed back out late this morning for another round! Stay tuned.
