EXPANDING hours
We will be stocking the farmstand shorty this morning (Wed) and will keep it in goodies through Saturday this week
Our new stand schedule will be: stocked Tues afternoon by 3, kept stocked Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. We will let stuff sell out Sunday morning
Farmstand will not be stocked Sundays and Mondays.
We have expanded clientele (thank you thank you) as well as wholesale and just do not grow enough acreage to keep everything high in produce all the time. We have always done 7 days a week once we start having more stuff but have made the call this year to limit it to these days.

Rio, very proud of our best ever garlic crop. Good yield but moreover the BIGGEST heads we have grown. We pulled a few to see if they are done. These will even get bigger after curing
We will harvest the whole crop next week. But for now, look for garlic scapes at the farmstand tomorrow and Saturday

Gorgeous produce!
Everything absolutely loved the rain yesterday. We measured 1”, though the farm usually gets a tiny bit less. This morning the field was a glowing green of lush.
This produce can be found at as of the evening. Also picked some of the most tender baby arugula this morning for our new favorite place in point arena,

Soft OPENING for the farmstand, 2025 season
We will be opening Friday afternoon (1ish) and Saturday this week (restocked in the am)
Look for lettuce, chard, kale, turnips, some Mother’s Day flowers and the earliest strawberries we have ever had on our farm
We will proceed with part time opening in the beginning of the season and then go to 7 days a week once summer crops start in.

We are excited about the start of a relationship providing produce to an exciting new place in Point Arena to go eat and hang out:

Our outdoor tomatoes are in the ground
While we would looove more rain (already irrigating way too much for April), we hope there are not any more cold snaps! We lost 10-15% of our tomatoes last year in a mid May frost

Every season has its beginning challenges. Some years these can be so overwhelming and stressful that we loose confidence in making a household’s living via farming. Last year it was bad potting soil that killed and stunted early starts. Three years ago it was a windstorm that ripped the greenhouse plastic apart.
This year, flocks of sparrows have been a big problem for us. In November they ate the 4-5” tall germinated cover crop down to the roots. Our cover crop is very minimal to non-existent in sections of the farm. This is later fertility for crops that we will not have.
We have had these birds eat new lettuce in Nov in the past, but then they move on or change what they are eating and do not bother us the rest of the year. We are demoralized and at a loss how to proceed this season if they don’t go away. We just planted our early season hoop house cucumbers and zucchini a few days ago. These sparrows came in and ate them all. These are a very financially important early crop for us we will not have early. Had to start seeds all over again yesterday that had been growing for a month. While we can strive to bird proof the greenhouse, there’s no way we are bird proofing the whole field. Native songbirds are in decline in North America. We are not going to sit out in our field and shoot them. We might try putting up predator decoys?? If anyone has any we can borrow, we would appreciate that. Bright hanging things don’t work.
Plugging along to get our first round of greens in the ground this weekend into next week. These healthy baby crops will get row cover in the beginning so will be ok, but they can’t stay under this once they are bigger. Planting anyway and hoping these animals will just go away.
Bonus picture of our early sunflowers bit off and dragged to a vole hole

Spring is here!
Started processing and planting the hoop house today! Most starts are still to small, but a few things are in the ground. We haven’t had starts this healthy and robust in years! Thanks to some new practices we are implementing.

Mowed our greens block 2 area (old crop stems and small cover crop). Today we will lay a big black tarp over that area. This process, called occulation, is where the tarp will catch moisture and provide warmth to quickly breakdown that old material. On top of that, the extra warmth will cause some w**d seed germination but having no light, these will then die! I’m 4 weeks this zone will be ready for transplants and direct sowing!

Should have shared earlier but we have been busy in this recent fine weather! We will be giving a live talk at the Scion Exchange in Philo today!
We are slotted for 1 for an hour talk.
There’s so much we could cover, we decided to touch on A Journey Towards Sustainability and all the ways we have tried to move in this direction.
The Scion Exchange is at the Philo grange and there’s other things beyond our talk happening
See you there

Our Story

Nature's Tune Farm is a small, two and a half acres, vegetable farm that supplies produce to the southern coast of Mendocino county. We recently switch from being certified organic by CCOF, and are now certified by the Mendocino Renegade Program. Our focus is on growing mixed vegetable crops that are sold both wholesale and direct to customers. Currently our crops are available at local grocery stores, restaurants, the Gualala and Point Arena Farmer’s Markets as well as our own Farm Stand in Point Arena. We opened the Natures Tune Farm Stand, open during growing season, to create a place in Point Arena where people can consistently find fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables.
