❗❗❗Flipp'N Dogs family and all dog parents -we need your help!- ❗❗❗
✨✨✨ Update!!✨✨✨
I am beyond humbled. An extremely generous sponsor, Deb Hook of McCammon, decided to become Luna's sponsor. She very selflessly is covering the costs of Luna's training AND donated extra to ensure that any additional training Luna, Karter, and Paisley might need for an enriched life will be completely covered!!! 😭😭😭😭 💗Deb has always been a giving person and never gives for the mentions, but I just cannot let her name go unsaid. Deb is opening so many doors for this young couple and this young pup. 💗
Her kindness is beyond words.
Some of our wonderful clients have just experienced a life changing accident and so our canine family is spreading the word to help out where we can. 🩵🐾
Karter was in a devastating accident and was life flighted to the U of U. He has two broken ribs, a sternal fracture with a hematoma behind it, a broken tailbone, and two broken vertebrae. He underwent a ten hour extensive surgery to repair the L2 and L4 broken vertebrae in his back. He has an incomplete spinal cord injury and can’t move below his knees.
It is a very real possibility that he will end up in a wheelchair and he will require lengthy rehab in hopes that he will walk again.
Karter age 20, and Paisley age 19 are the dog parents of one of our puppy graduates Luna the silver lab (pictured below). Karter is an accomplished welder and Paisley is currently earning her bachelor's degree at ISU and was just accepting into Physical Therapy school.
One of the very first things Karter asked about once he regained consciousness was their puppy Luna. Keep in mind that Karter couldn't speak as he was still fully intubated, but he wrote Luna's name repeatedly until he could receive an update about her.
Luna was an exceptional puppy to train and work with, and she has already proven integral to Karter's recovery and mental health during his journey. Because Luna is an exceptional puppy she has all of the potential to become a very capable service dog to help Karter and Paisley along their journey.
That's where the Flipp'N Dogs family comes in.
Luna needs additional advanced training to enrich Karter's life as much as caninely possible. Luna now needs to be taught the following:
Picking up dropped items such as keys, phone, credit card, remote, etc.
Retrieving named items for example medication, bottled water, cane, etc.
Operating push/pull doors and cabinets with a tether or paw.
Flipping standard light switches on and off
Pressing accessible buttons in elevators, crosswalks, automatic doors and so on.
Confidence walking beside wheelchairs, walkers, as well as canes.
A professional high standard heel so Karter can walk her safely.
As well as providing a brace or counter-balance for stability when standing up.
🐾Training a pup to accomplish these things takes time and know-how but on top of that new and very specific training tools and aids need to be purchased for this specific pup's success. Things such as trained retrieve objects, a training table to be built, a wheelchair, a walker, different types of canes, training cupboards, training switch posts, and more will all need to be acquired, built, and purchased. Also cost of fuel to travel to new locations to train with real life objects such as elevators and accessable buttons all add up quickly.
🐾A training package like this is a 4 week minimum commitment at a $1800+++ price point and goes up depending on the pup and their natural aptitude for the specific needed tasks if they already have a solid obedience foundation in place (typically a $1400 investment).
🐾Flipp'N Dogs has agreed to train Luna to do the listed items to completion for a flat rate of $1400 with free follow up training tune-ups to ensure the overall success for Luna and Karter.
Now we are reaching out for your help. Bills are quickly piling up for Karter and Paisley as this young couple are trying to find their new and uncertain path in life.
A sponsor stepped up and generously donated enough for ALL of Luna's foreseeable training, including follow ups, increased skills, in person lessons, etc. Her donation will also cover the costs of much of the training items needed for maximum success. We are so grateful to Deb as now Karter and Paisley have one last thing to worry about and Luna will be provided the best possible learning experience.
How can you help?
Donations to aid in medical bills can be made to the venmo link pictured below, and no amount is too small.
Can't donate? No worries. Please just like and share this post so that others can join the effort to help this young couple.
Thank you all so much for being apart of the Flipp'N Dogs Family 💕🐾
