"Where do I buy one like him?"
That's a message or comment I get on almost every post I make about Tony.
Sometimes it's, "Can I buy him?" My answer is, and always will be, no. The truth is there is no amount of money that could buy this dog. More importantly, there is no amount of money that could buy another one exactly like him. Dogs that look like him, hunt like him, sound like him, and act like him aren't accidents. His genetics tie back to years and years of hard work, love, and dedication. Generations of people and dogs all working toward a common goal. But genetics are only part of the story. Tony was raised in this house from the day I brought him home as a puppy. He slept in our bed until he got too big. He still lives in our house today. He's grown up alongside my kids and has been part of our family every step of the way. I've put years of my life into this dog. Money cannot buy memories. Money cannot buy discipline. Money cannot buy trust. Money cannot buy something you've raised and trained yourself. Money could not replace this dog. Even if I had a million dollars to spend on another dog, I couldn't find one exactly like him because Tony isn't just a hunting dog. He's the result of thousands of little moments that have happened over the years. I've never sold a dog. I've never bought a started dog. I've never bought a finished dog. I've always taken puppies and turned them into best friends. Puppies that grow into full grown c**n dogs. The type of dog you can turn loose in the woods and trust to do its job. The type of dog that trees the first racc**n it comes to, and then does it again when you cut it loose the next time. But that's not all I want in a dog. The dogs I raise also lead, load, and listen. The dogs I raise also love children. The dogs I raise also protect this home. The dogs I raise will sleep on the couch and act calm when they should. The dogs I raise know when it's go time and when it's time to snuggle a sick kid. The dogs I raise are great hunting dogs, but more importantly they mean more than running and treeing a racc**n in the woods. They're family. A dog is placed into your life for a reason. Every dog is an individual, and every dog has a story. We're blessed to be part of that story for a little while. So when people ask where they can buy a dog like Tony, the answer is simple. You don't buy one.
You raise one.
