We had a great time at the Illinois Taxidermist Association show this weekend. We got five second place ribbons and Donna got an award from IFOR for the best game head in the professional division.

The Illinois Taxidermist Association had their annual competition and show this past weekend. Donna myself and Marlin Filer entered the combined artist competition with a bobcat stalking a raccoon which was after a crawdad. We were fortunate in winning five awards with this piece including IFOR best of show, Illinois trappers Association award, trophy room woodshop award, the masters division state champion combined artist and the Competitor’s choice best mount -UTA Artisan award.
We had a bear win best of category large mammal award and won ribbons with a bobcat, an otter and a deer.
A big thank you to several of our customers for allowing us to display there mounts.

The rut is starting to kick in. If you get a deer you want mounted field care is very important. Don’t drag it or haul it in a way that damages the cape. When you skin it don’t split it past the front legs. Don’t forget extra cape is better than cutting it to short and in this warm weather make sure to get it cooled down as quick as possible and get it to your taxidermists with out delay. If you can’t get it to the taxidermist freeze the head to preserve it until you can get it there. Got luck and best wishes.
