Thanks for this, !!

It’s foaling season, which means it’s also time for one of our all-time pet peeves — incorrect terminology.

One of the most common mix-ups we see is the phrase “out of,” and it makes us twitch. So if you’re referring to a foal’s parents, remember this, folks: a foal can only be OUT OF a mare and BY a stallion/stud.

Think about it. The foal literally comes OUT OF the mare when it’s born (no, we’re not going to debate this by discussing what came out of the stud to create the foal).

So, make sure that you know your foal came out of its dam and was by its sire. Or at least pretend you knew it when making your social media posts from here on out.

Happy Friday, y’all!

This very good boy turned 20 yesterday. 🎉🎂🥹

Owned by Amanda Nimick, Theo has been at the barn for seven years, and in that time he has become nearly everyone’s favorite. He’s the go-to horse when someone wants to get on a horse for the first time (either adult or child) or just wants a steady, safe ride.

He entertains all of us with his antics — if there’s something to knock off a ledge, Theo is your guy. Hell also lick your jacket, hand, or the wall, just in case there is some errant treat dust in any of those locations. He does not feel the need for speed, unless he’s being called in to eat.

Happy Birthday, Theo! Here’s to many more!

PSA!!!

I see so many people competing on horse that clearly are running with some sort of lameness. Sometimes -- and very rarely -- it's only biomechanical, but more often than not it is pain related.

Some lamenesses are easy to spot (like head-bobbing when a front foot is sore), but others are less obvious -- or at least less commonly recognized. This is one of those lameness I see all the time.

If you don't know better/can't tell, that's fine. But find someone who can. If your horse can't make turns or run without seeming to jam up its hind end, that is an indication something is wrong. It might be as simple as hock injections. It might be something else. But these are things to explore.

Be a good partner to your horse. Fix the problem. Don't force your horse to run through it and sour him to whatever form of riding you are doing.

Do better, folks. Be better.

Have to share this little mare’s . First picture was last night (4/25) second picture was shortly after she arrived at the barn (2/26). She was pulled from. New Holland mid- to late January.

When Hailey K Sinon saw me pull her off the trailer, she thought I was rolling in with a two year old. Certainly no one would think so now. This little 15.2 hh is well on her way to looking and riding like a rockstar. She certainly doesn’t look like a New Holland Thoroughbred.

Thank you so much to everyone who helps my horses looking and feeling their best:

🌟 Four Oaks Farm & Feed LLC for supplying a great variety of Tribute Equine Nutrition feeds
🌟 My effing badass farrier, Jamie Colder, who doesn’t shy away from working with my Thoroughbreds and keeping them performance-ready (although this one has some pretty damned nice feet)
🌟 Allegheny Equine Associates for providing great veterinary and chiropractic care

Of course I can’t forget to mention the amazing ladies at The Western Thoroughbred, who know a good prospect when they see one. And to Sondra Fallon, who took the time not only to pull her from the auction, but also to find a home that values Thoroughbreds and wants to see them reach their full potential in second careers. So happy to have met you and brought this little mare to the barn.

Can’t wait to see what this mare will do.
