It’s International Blind Dog Day! 🐾
Today we’re honoring the strength and adaptability of dogs with vision loss.

Whether they rely on a halo for safe movement (like one pup we recently shared 👀) or just a little extra patience from their humans, blind dogs can live full, joyful lives with the right support.

Noticing signs like bumping into furniture, hesitation on stairs, or cloudiness in your dog’s eyes? Early care makes a big difference—and we’re here to help.

Are your pet’s eyes looking cloudy or gray? It could be more than just “getting older.” 👀🐾

Cataracts often start subtly—but early signs can signal that it’s time for an ophthalmic exam. Look out for:

🔹 Cloudy or bluish discoloration inside the eyes
🔹 Bumping into furniture or hesitation in new spaces
🔹 Trouble seeing in low light

Cataracts can affect pets of all ages and breeds, especially those with diabetes or a genetic predisposition. The good news? When caught early, we can often slow progression—or even restore vision through surgery.

☀️ Bright sun, dry air, windy days—summer can be tough on pet eyes, too.

Just like us, pets can experience eye irritation from UV exposure, dust, heat, and allergens during the summer months. You might notice:
👁️ Squinting or blinking more
👁️ Redness or watery eyes
👁️ Rubbing at the face or eyes

If your pet shows any of these signs, it might be more than just seasonal irritation—and our team at Animal Eye Care can help. When in doubt, get it checked out!

Noticed a red, round swelling in the corner of your pet’s eye? It might be cherry eye. 👁️🍒

Cherry eye happens when the gland of the third eyelid slips out of place. It’s most common in younger dogs and certain breeds like Bulldogs, Cocker Spaniels, and Beagles—but it can affect any dog (and occasionally cats too).

At Animal Eye Care, we diagnose cherry eye with a detailed ophthalmic exam. This includes:
🔬 A thorough look at the third eyelid and tear film
💧 Tear production testing (to check for dry eye risks)
💡 Fluorescein staining to rule out corneal damage
🔎 Careful evaluation to rule out other causes of redness or swelling

If cherry eye is confirmed, we’ll walk you through your pet’s treatment options—including surgical correction and aftercare.

Early care can make a big difference in comfort and long-term eye health. If something doesn’t look right, don’t wait—give us a call.

Drop a photo in the comments of your pet’s most expressive eyes and tell us what you think they’re saying! 🗯️💬

And remember: healthy eyes are expressive eyes. If you notice squinting, cloudiness, or discharge, it might be time for an expert checkup. We’re here to help keep those gazes clear and full of life.

Say hello to Betty! 👋💙

This sweet girl may be blind, but she’s not letting that slow her down. Betty’s rocking her mobility halo—a special device that helps her safely navigate her world by gently guiding her around obstacles. It gives her the freedom to move with confidence, curiosity, and plenty of personality.

At Animal Eye Care, we’re proud to support pets like Betty through every stage of their eye health journey. Whether your pet is experiencing vision loss or just showing early signs of eye disease, we’re here to help.

Did someone say “Betty?!” We sure did—and we think she’s amazing.

What's one thing our ophthalmology team wishes more pet owners knew?
That many serious eye conditions start with just subtle changes—like mild redness, cloudiness, or pawing at the face.

We see it all the time: pets who could’ve been treated earlier if something small hadn’t been dismissed as “normal.”
