Valley Humane Society

Valley Humane Society Valley Humane Society creates a brighter future for cats and dogs by encouraging and strengthening the bond between people and pets.

Our Vision:

A world in which every animal is loved and every person knows the love of an animal. Our Values:

Compassion- Kindness is at the core of our mission. At VHS we treat everyone with respect and understanding. Animals at VHS are treated individually with the sensitivity and caring they deserve. Companionship- Everyone deserves a friend. VHS creates opportunities for people to experience

the love of a pet, as well as connect with others. We believe that life lived as part of a loving family is richer, happier, and more fulfilling. Optimism- VHS is a warm, happy place, a feeling reflected by the well-being of the animals in our care. We believe visiting, volunteering, and working here should be a fun, positive experience, a vibe we carry out with us into the community. Our good spirits cultivate enthusiasm for our mission and keep us hopeful when things get challenging. Gratitude- We appreciate the many talents brought to bear by our volunteers and staff to achieve our mission. The mental, physical, and emotional gifts offered to VHS are as important as the financial contributions, both large and small, of our many donors. We recognize that these gifts, taken together, are what allow us in turn to serve the animals and people of our community. Collaboration- The task before us is greater than any one person. Our relationships with the community, business, and other rescue organizations increase our capacity and amplify our impact. We work together to achieve a common goal. At VHS we lead the way by actively cultivating cooperative partnerships. Integrity- Our path is paved with more than good intentions. At VHS we strive to act with integrity and honesty. Decisions are based on sound judgment and careful reasoning. We are fiscally responsible and understand our commitment to our animals, donors, volunteers, and community.

Bratwurst and Frankfurter had such a great time visiting the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department E-91 team that Knackwurst and Leberwurst wanted in on the fun, too!

Since we’re just down the road from Station 1, we stopped by with some Valley Humane swag and a few sweet, adoptable puppies to thank the firefighters who came to our rescue earlier this week.

We’re grateful for the dedicated first responders who help keep our community safe, and our puppies were pretty excited to make some new friends along the way.

Frankfurter, Knackwurst, and Leberwurst are still looking for families of their own. Stop by the Valley Humane Adoption Center today to meet them and see if one might be your perfect match.

Valley Humane Society can only take in as many cats and dogs as we have room for. Foster families are how we make room for more. When you welcome a foster pet into your home, you give your foster pet the care they need to get ready for adoption, and you open up space for us to rescue another animal.

Some foster pets are a little shy and need a calm place to find their confidence. Some are healing and need somewhere quiet to rest. Some are young and just need room to grow. In a foster home, they get exactly that, and they get it because of you.

We could not do this work without our fosters. If you would like to become one, it starts with our Foster Families Workshop on Tuesday, June 30. There is room for everyone who wants to help. Reserve your spot here: https://bit.ly/3Scw33x

Valley Humane Society is excited to announce that Debbie Blumenthal and her Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Sydney, are June's volunteers of the month!

Debbie Blumenthal and her Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Sydney, are a remarkable therapy team dedicated to bringing comfort, laughter, and companionship to others. Together, they visit Kaiser Permanente San Leandro, San Leandro Hospital, and Redwood Place Mental Health Rehabilitation Center, where Debbie’s buoyant spirit and Sydney’s joyful personality brighten countless lives.

Sydney, officially known as “Ciera Sydney Heart So True,” is a two-year-old AKC-registered Staffordshire Bull Terrier and certified Canine Comfort Pet-Assisted Therapy dog. She completed training at Barkeley K-9 University and quickly became known for her loving nature and goofy personality. According to Debbie, Sydney’s life goal is “to wake up and be a weird little snark-ball of awesomeness!”

Before Sydney, there was Roxi, another beloved Staffordshire Bull Terrier who served as a therapy dog for 11 years and received the 2019 Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club of America “Andy Award” for her outstanding volunteer work.

One unforgettable memory connects both dogs in Debbie’s volunteer experience. After Roxi passed away, one resident at a mental health facility where they regularly visited struggled deeply with Roxi’s loss. When Sydney came to visit, she immediately climbed into his lap, covered him with kisses, and soon had him laughing and running through the backyard. Later, the resident shared that Sydney had “healed his heart,” a moment that inspired her AKC name.

We are so grateful for volunteers like Debbie, whose compassion and dedication continue to make a lasting difference in our community.
