Field update 7/22: Lots and Lots of berries on now….great picking, don’t skip the Bluecrop (lower 3 rows) as they are at their peak of sweetness and flavor!! We expect another 3 weeks of solid fruit ripening. That said, don’t wait until the end if you are picking for freezer quantities. Now is the greatest and easiest harvest time 😊…..

The season has started strong and the field is full of fruit. Thanks to everyone who has been out and please help spread the word to any and all blueberry lovers! Easy picking.

Well, the forecast is for 5 more days of intense heat. This will accelerate ripening throughout the field and likely shorten our season. Early morning will be the best choice. On the plus side, the berries will be so sweet! We will continue to update on picking conditions.

07/02/2024

It's that time! The field will open for picking on Friday July 5th for the season. We usually open the week after the 4rth of July but the berries are a bit early this year. Bluecrop has the most berries and Chandler will be kicking in soon. Thanks in advance for supporting our little farm. We will be open again dawn to dusk 7 days a week.

Each year we do this berry patch dance, we are reminded of what it is to be a part of a community….thanks to all of you that have come and spent time
in the field so far. There are still tons of berries!! We get asked every year, many times over, about the “financial rewards “ of blueberry farming…ohhh, that’s a tough question ya know.
Is it “worth it”??
Well, ya’ll pick berries, and bring kids, bring your friends, come alone sometimes for the peace….
And the money you leave behind in exchange, well, it pays for the repairs on the tractor, pays for the local guys that spray copper to keep the fungal this-and-that’s at bay, pays for the guy that’s been helping with the gopher problem, pays for the taxes on the land so we can all do it again together another year…
When we get a photo of someone’s kiddo eating berries, or get told the story of how someone went into labor and birthed a new being into the world “after berry picking” (true story x 2 now), when voices speak across the rows as they solve the world’s woes, when a sweet human comes up to me in the flowers and tells me he’s been “coming here since he was a kid and, oh hey, did you see the quail family this year...”

And, yes, yes I did see that quail family….and let me show you the owl family…

Well, how do we place an answer as to the “worth” of this little patch of earth?

We can’t.

We just thank you all for coming, for being here.

We ask one thing only: when ya can?…pass it on. ❤️

Hot weather this weekend!! Plan your farm trip for maximum enjoyment…it’s about to be a scorcher! This is great as it will speed the sugar sweetening of the berries and make fantastic sweet berries NOW….

Consider bringing:
—extra water
—sun hats and sunscreen

Remember: early morning and late evening is coolest weather and far more enjoyable when temps are above 85 or so. Enjoy your time, saunter in, take pauses…nothing needs to be in a hurry in a summer berry patch😊
