Each year we do this berry patch dance, we are reminded of what it is to be a part of a community….thanks to all of you that have come and spent time
in the field so far. There are still tons of berries!! We get asked every year, many times over, about the “financial rewards “ of blueberry farming…ohhh, that’s a tough question ya know.
Is it “worth it”??
Well, ya’ll pick berries, and bring kids, bring your friends, come alone sometimes for the peace….
And the money you leave behind in exchange, well, it pays for the repairs on the tractor, pays for the local guys that spray copper to keep the fungal this-and-that’s at bay, pays for the guy that’s been helping with the gopher problem, pays for the taxes on the land so we can all do it again together another year…
When we get a photo of someone’s kiddo eating berries, or get told the story of how someone went into labor and birthed a new being into the world “after berry picking” (true story x 2 now), when voices speak across the rows as they solve the world’s woes, when a sweet human comes up to me in the flowers and tells me he’s been “coming here since he was a kid and, oh hey, did you see the quail family this year...”
And, yes, yes I did see that quail family….and let me show you the owl family…
Well, how do we place an answer as to the “worth” of this little patch of earth?
We can’t.
We just thank you all for coming, for being here.
We ask one thing only: when ya can?…pass it on. ❤️
