Our Story

Hi, my name is Donna but am also known as “Mama D”. Back in 2013 I began rescuing dogs from high kill shelters, and homed about 90 dogs. My family always owned dogs, my sister even showed them and bred them. (I don’t support breeding) That’s a conversation for another time. I’ve had many years walking dogs. As I rescued, I had to walk all of the dogs that came through here so that I could see what their ability was walking on a leash and if they had any issues with other dogs. I also have my own pack that I walk 3X a day. Walking the neighborhood with different dogs, people started to ask me if I walked dogs, and or dog sat. I’ve dog sat for awhile and started walking a couple of dogs in the neighborhood.

In December of 2017 I started my business known as Paws Up Playa. Got insurance, bonded and went through the process of owning my business name. At that time, a well known dog walker was leaving her business and referred her clients to me, I picked up some of hers as well.

It’s exciting owning my dog service business. I have the best clients in the world, and at the end of everyday know that I have been blessed. Your dogs are my dogs when in my care.

I wanted to be more than an ordinary “dog walker”. I am not the walker that has earbuds on listening to music, talking on the phone, texting, or walking 5-6 dogs at any given time. Your dog has my 100% attention. I talk to them, I praise them and I love to train them as much as they can be trained. ie... potty on command. stop at alleys, crossing the street, moving over for pedestrians so that they don’t have to move. My dogs learn manners and most of them already have them, so it’s a fairly easy task. My point is, I pride myself on being different than other dog walkers. Am I the best in the area? I think so. What do I do that others do not. I do and don’t do the things mentioned above. I truly love my connection to your dogs and to me, it’s not “just a job” I am the lucky one.
