Paisley helped move the sale heifers to fresh grazing last evening. These heifers will all be available in the near future. A.I. bred to Koupal’s B&B Diverse CED +11, BW -1.0, CEM +10, WW +83 (dam is the highly productive and proven B&B Blkbd Progress 3015 cow). Clean up bulls used were Grygiel Echo brothers (pedigrees loaded with maternal greats). These heifers are moved and handled with dogs and horses, cake broke to come to a side by side, and are rotationally grazed throughout the summer using hot fence. They grew up in the rugged breaks of the Missouri River. We don’t believe in pampering our cows. These heifers will survive in a harsh western environment or do just fine in farm country. They are backed by years of genetics that strive to produce hard working, low in put, practical, maternal cows. Roscoe (Registered Name: Docs Frosty Badger) will be available at a later date.
For now, he has important work to do—gathering yearling steers out of the Missouri River Breaks, moving replacement heifers through the bud box for ultrasounding, and gathering cow/calf pairs for pre-weaning vaccinations. He’ll also be sorting at weaning and assisting during shipping season.
In short, he’ll see thousands of head of cattle this fall. Once he has passed that real-world test, we will be ready to offer him to a new home.

Few pics of the heifers we will be offering tomorrow December 27 at Platte Livestock Market. 44 head of angus heifers A.I. bred to B Bar Black Mass 3045 (pictured at 8 years of age) due March 11. 18 head of F1 baldies bred to low birth weight bulls from HPR and Kemnitz Angus due March 25th to April 5th. Average weight on 2 trailer loads we tested was #1166. Ultrasounded 8/10/24 and confirmed pregnant 12/23/24 by Dr Tyler Grussing. Pre breeding shots this spring and 2 rounds of Scour Bos 9 as well as being poured with Cydectin 12/23/24. Year round Purina availa 4 mineral program. They are coming off cover crop and cornstalks. They are NOT "pen raised." Handled with horses, dogs, and cake broke to come to side by side. What truly sets these heifers apart is the country they were born and raised in, rough river break pastures that are high in selenium. These heifers will be very adaptability wherever they go. Their mothers are expected to graze the majority of the year and are given NO silage or distillers as part of the ration just hay and alfalfa. Any questions feel free to call or text 605-680-4259. About Us

Hidden Prairie Ranch is a commercial family operation that is involved in almost every aspect of the cattle industry. We retain our own heifers, sell calves off the cow, background calves, finish calves out, sell cattle on a grid system, and run yearlings out on grass. We have had the opportunity to see firsthand what kind of genetics work in all these different situations. There are several important traits to look for in cattle, but in our mind, maternal efficiency and fertility trump everything else.

There are countless studies that show feed cost and bringing new cows into your herd as being the biggest expenses in any cattle operation. Sixty-dollar grid premiums are nice but they mean nothing if we spent an extra hundred dollars feeding that calf’s mother. The same could be said for extra pounds at weaning time. In the end, net profitability never lies. We put an emphasis on maternal traits while seeking to keep a balance on all other traits that add profit. Our biggest goal for you as a customer is for our cattle to add overall profitability to your operation.
