It is the final $0 Fee-Waived Friday of Clear the Shelters month! Today we are featuring all three of our long-stay heroes: Bernie, Dobby, and Buster! For approved applicants, adoption fees for all three dogs are completely waived ($0) through the end of August.
Bernie is enjoying life in a foster home while she waits for an adopter, while Dobby and Buster are urgently looking for foster or adoptive homes to get out of boarding. Bernie is our affectionate 54-pound nanny-dog soul, Dobby is our intelligent 4-year-old Doberman mix, and Buster is our fetch-obsessed 38-pound Lab mix. Maxine is living proof that good things come in small packages! This adorable two-year-old Tabby girl is pocket-sized, super soft, and completely gentle in everything she does. She is currently in a foster home, where she enjoys finding cozy spots on soft blankets and watching the world go by.
Maxine can be a bit shy when meeting new people, but once she trusts you, she turns into a purring, head-booping machine! She loves chin scratches and soft petting, making her a wonderful companion for anyone looking for a sweet, low-maintenance cat. Maxine’s standard $100 adoption fee goes directly back into helping us rescue more feline friends in DFW.

If you ask Buster, Sunday was invented specifically for chasing tennis balls in the yard. If you ask Bernie, Sunday is for sleeping in until noon. Either way, our rescue dogs know how to do weekends right!

At Abandoned Pet Project, our ultimate goal is to get our dogs out of commercial boarding for good! Dobby and Buster are currently living in boarding facilities while they wait for their second chances. Boarding keeps them safe, but a kennel facility can never replace the comfort of a real home, a soft dog bed, and a family of their own.
Meanwhile, sweet Bernie is waiting in a foster home for her permanent forever family. All three of these long-stay heroes have so much love to give. It is $0 Fee-Waived Friday! Today we are highlighting Bernie, our gorgeous 54-pound nanny-dog who has been waiting for her forever family since 2020. As part of our recurring Friday event and national Clear the Shelters, Bernie’s adoption fee is 100% waived ($0) for an approved home!
Bernie is a sweet, patient soul who is house-trained, crate-trained, and incredible with kids. She is currently enjoying life in a foster home while her allergies (she is sensitive to a lot, including cats and birds) are kept in check with regular baths and a modest $50/month medication routine. Bernie is dog-friendly for the most part with slow introductions, but she needs a home without cats or birds to prevent allergy flare-ups. At Abandoned Pet Project, we hate having to pay for commercial boarding, but it is often the only alternative to leaving a dog in a crowded shelter facing euthanasia. Right now, Dobby and Buster are living in boarding facilities while they wait for their forever homes. Fostering them eliminates those heavy monthly expenses and allows us to redirect funds toward life-saving medical care.

Here is a critical reminder for all Dallas/DFW pet parents: No matter how much your furry friend loves car rides that even on a mild day, the temperature inside a parked car can rise by 20 degrees in just ten minutes. On an August day in Texas, the inside of a vehicle can quickly reach lethal temperatures, even with the windows cracked and the car parked in the shade.

Dogs overheat much faster than humans do, and leaving them in a vehicle for just a quick minute can quickly turn into a medical emergency. Leave your pets at home in the air conditioning when running errands this summer. Let's keep our local pets safe, healthy, and cool!
