Meet Bleu! a sweet 5-year-old Bulldog who visited UrgentVet after experiencing vomiting, lethargy, and a decreased appetite for two days. When he arrived, he was mildly dehydrated and had lost a few pounds from his usual weight. To try and get to the bottom of things our team performed bloodwork which revealed some electrolyte imbalances, likely related to fluid loss and reduced food intake. His treatment included fluids to help with rehydration, and antinausea/ Pepcid injections were administered to help control his nausea and soothe his stomach.

Bleu’s family was sent home with medicine and a treatment plan to help him recover at home, including keeping him on easily digestible food such as canned fat free chicken in water, boiled lean hamburger meat and boiled white rice. Our team is Sending lots of love and healing wishes to Mr. Bleu! 🐶💕

Cheddar may be sharp, but swallowing his favorite purple stress ball was one unexpected choice! 😅🐶

When this 1-year-old Pit Bull mix swallowed the toy, his mom brought him to UrgentVet right away. Our team safely helped Cheddar bring the ball back up, then provided fluids and anti-nausea medication to help him feel better. 💜

Cheddar’s story is a reminder to supervise playtime and keep tempting, swallowable items out of reach. We’re glad he’s on the mend! 🐾

What do you call the study of Dachshunds? Doxology! 🤣🐾

Louie, a 4-year-old Dachshund, came to UrgentVet with vomiting and diarrhea that progressed to bloody stool after sneaking another dog’s food. Our team assessed him, provided fluids and medications, and shared guidance on a bland diet and gradually returning to his regular food.

Dietary indiscretion may have played a part, but further testing was recommended to check for other causes. Louie’s family will monitor him closely and follow up with their primary veterinarian. We’re wishing him a comfortable, speedy recovery! 💙

When Elmer the Beagle got his paws on some raw chocolate chip dough, things quickly took a turn! 🐶🍪

His pet parents brought him to UrgentVet Carytown, where the team acted quickly to help. With medication to induce vomiting, they discovered Elmer had eaten a whopping 2.4 pounds of dough! 🍞

Raw bread dough can be dangerous for pets because the yeast continues to ferment in their stomach, producing alcohol that can lead to toxicity. Add chocolate to the mix, and it's important to seek veterinary care right away.

Thankfully, Elmer got the care he needed!

When your pet runs into a bit of "Ruff Timing", UrgentVet is here to help. 🐾
