Letβs talk about the importance of nail trims for your dog(s)! Take a look at the first picture. On the left you see the dogs weight shifted back to take pressure off of the nail that is too long. In addition when you let their nails grow out too long the quick grows out further leaving less to trim without cutting the quick. If you are not comfortable cutting your dogs nails please please please take them to a qualified groomer.
Tips to help your dog be more comfortable with nail trims.
1. Play with their feet as much as possible.
2. Pick at their nails, it is a similar feeling to cutting with the clippers.
3. Use treats and praise! Peanut butter on a plate is a great distraction!
Clip their nails every couple weeks to keep the quick from growing out too far. If youβre nervous about clipping too much just clip the tip! Always have flour or quick stop nearby incase you clip too short. Apply pressure and wait for it to clot.
When in doubt, and if your dog is too squirmy take them to a qualified groomer.πππππππππ
