πΎ Foxtail Season Is Here! πΎ
Over the past week, we've seen a significant increase in foxtail-related cases, including painful abscesses and foxtails lodged in ears, noses, paws, and even throats.
To help keep your pets safe this summer:
πΎ Check your pet's paws daily, especially after outdoor activities.
π± Avoid areas with tall, dry grass whenever possible.
βοΈ Be aware that recently weed-whacked fields can be just as hazardous. Foxtails may be cut down, but they remain on the ground and can easily become embedded in your pet's skin, ears, nose, or paws.
π If your dog has long hair, consider keeping the hair between and around the paws trimmed short to reduce the risk of foxtails getting trapped.
π For Doodles and other long-coated curly breeds, groomers often refer to a shorter summer style as a "Kennel Cut." We recommend discussing a shorter summer trim with your groomer if foxtails are common in your area.
If you notice excessive sneezing, head shaking, limping, swelling, licking at the paws, or any sudden signs of discomfort, contact your veterinarian promptly. Early intervention can prevent more serious complications.
Stay safe and enjoy the summer! βοΈπΎ
