Update....Gypsy is now in her forever retirement home and is loving it!

Gypsy is retiring and has already been spayed. She also has a lot less hair right now since we gave her a lion cut! She is very sweet and loving, but doesn't focus on haircare as much as some girls do! If you are interested, you can find more information on our website at goldrushmainecoons.com.

Gentle, giant family cats

It started with a son who LOVED cats and an abandoned kitty at a drive-in restaurant. After driving with “Oscar” from Minnesota to California along with our four kids, we began to question what kind of cat he was. He had obviously been a pet for someone as the hair around his neck was short due to his wearing a collar. He had long hair, he made funny noises and he followed us around like a dog. We finally settled on his being a Maine C**n, although looking back, he was obviously not a purebred cat. Our son saved up his money and bought his first Maine C**n, Skittles, who taught us a lot about how not to raise a cat. She was not well socialized, being raised completely in a “cattery” which was actually a clean, well lit shed in the backyard of a long time breeder who should have retired years before. Skittles gave us many beautiful kittens with our first male, a brown classic named Sampson who Tom purchased about 9 months later. Then, came Zephyr and Belle, followed by Calypso and Maggie. The rest is history.

We now have cats from Europe and well established breeders in the states with stellar reputations. All of our cats are registered with either TICA or CFA and tested for HCM. All of our kittens are born and raised in our home so they are used to the sounds of family life and adjust completely within the first day or two of coming into their new homes. We love our cats and they are our greatest joy, right behind our kids!
