It's that time of year again - it's syrup time!

For the third year the organizers of the Music City Celebration Sale will host a Music City Celebration Maple Syrup contest. Many of the breeders who support the sale also make maple syrup. Syrup entries from the U.S. and Canada will be present, and attendees will do a blind taste test of the syrup and vote for their favorites.

While tasting great syrup is a phenomenal experience, another great part of the event is the auction. Everyone who tastes the syrup makes a donation, and then the syrup is sold with proceeds going to National Dairy Shrine. Each year three iconic people we have lost in the past year are honored. This year those great friends are:

- Martin "Bud" Yoder
- Ken Elliott
- Ken Main

Even if you're not at the event you can support the syrup auction. The sale is on Sunday around 3 pm CST and will be on Facebook Live through Cowsmo. You can contact anyone on the sales staff to place a bid, or contact Tim Abbott at (802) 238-1142 or Sharyn Abbott at (802) 309-4484. If your bid is successful, you'll be invoiced and show organizers will either deliver or ship the syrup to you.

In the dairy industry, it's all about the cows. And behind every great cow are breeders and owners who help make them special.

Earlier this year we held a judging contest that showcased some of the best cows over the past 75 years. The Supreme Champion of that contest was none other than Erbacres Snapple Shakira.

We visited the great Shakira this week at World Dairy Expo and presented her owners and breeder with a framed 75th Anniversary Champion Cow print. Congratulations to Shakira's breeder John Erbsen from Erbacres, and her current owners Jacobs, Antelimarck, Ty-D Holsteins, K Theraulaz and Attaboy Holsteins.

Good luck to Shakira this week and to all of the cows, breeders and owners exhibiting at World Dairy Expo!
