I had the incredible honor and priviledge to be a clinician over the weekend at the OCF’s Northeast Kingdom Equine Expo.
The expo was the best out of all of the expos I have been a part of. The friendly atmosphere between clinicians, vendors, youth and visitors has left me humbled and feeling great about humanity.
Organizers Beth Martin and Chelsea Cummings knocked it out of the park for their first expo. This must have taken a tremendous amount of work and time for them and their families.
My clinics at this expo were EQUESTRI-Sport and Western Dressage. I think we introduced quite a few new riders to both.
I am grateful for the voice to be better for our horses, and immensely thankful to demo riders Amy Davenport , Anna Dunton-Gallagher , Karen Sample and Celeste Tanguay .
I also want to thank NEK 4-Hers that were helping, asking questions, and truly "making the best better."
The quality of clinicians and demonstrators was remarkable. There was so much to learn, so many talented individuals. What I heard from every single one of them was in the best interest of horse welfare and true respect for these magnificent animals.

I still have a few shows to judge this year and a number of online shows over the winter.
Also, 1 more clinic this year, but I will not be judging or doing live clinics over the winter.
Unless I am requested to fly south for a clinic or show. I would entertain that.
My schedule is getting full for next year, so please schedule as soon as possible. Also booking 2026.

When a horse's owner truly takes the time the horse needs, doesn't rush, and listens to their horse, they are an example for all.
Alana only in her teens and she has spent over a year so far rehabbing her horse from kissing spine surgery. She is giving her horse the best chance possible. Alana and "Tessa" spend quite a bit of time long lining. We have been slowly adding in increments of walking undersaddle and adding pole work.
Tonight was monunentous for them both. They trotted undersaddle for the first time post surgery!
It went extremely well with half of a 30m circle at trot both ways.
Way to go Alana, for taking your time.
I see way too many riders and trainers bragging about how quickly their horse does x, y, or z. Many times the horses do not have to muscle to do what they are being asked, or really have the balance for that matter or the true training foundation. Some horses are very young and need the time to grow and develop and they are not allowed that chance before heavy work.
This is all why I commend Alana for doing what is right for the horse. Taking your time is never a bad thing. Developing your horse's muscle and suppleness without a rider is never a bad thing. Don't be in a rush. Either foundations of training will be missed, your horse will be sore, or the longevity of their soundness can be reduced.
At any rate, way to go Alana and Tessa!

Want to hear directly from a Horse Show Judge?
Tomorrow night I will talking about Open Horse Shows including rules, tack, apparel, scoring and what the judge is and is not looking for.
I will also touch on dressage and western dressage since they are gaining popularity in online open shows.
You also get to ask questions!
As the presenter, I hold 6 judges cards, have judged approximately 250 shows from the local to national and world levels.
This is your chance to get a winning edge with knowledge!
