Well in the middle of a crazy crazy walleye fishing season we are already making plans and preparations for another upcoming deer season and taking care of you all for a high quality European skull mount. If you are not familiar with these, head over to my Great Lakes Beetle Barn page and check it out!These crazy things are dermestid beetles and they are one of the top ways to do European mounts. They are flesh eating beetles and literally eat every ounce of meat off the deer skulls and preserve every fine detail for you.They must be fed year round, kept in strict temp and humidity restraints and free of flies! These things are ready to eat!!!

ITS ALMOST GAME TIME!!!!! If you’re like me, you’re definitely sick of winter and ready for early morning sunrises out to the fishing grounds and a cooler full of HUGE Lake Erie walleye for summer fish fry’s!

As always, Playin' Hooky Sportfishing- Capt. George J Uhl III will be docked in Port Clinton, Ohio for the TROPHY walleye season in April and May where we target the deeper reef edges in search of pre spawn female walleye. If you’re looking for that “rod in hand” action drift fishing with hair jigs and blade baits on the reef complex is an option as well.

As the weather warms up and the water temperate rises, we will head to our Summer Dock in Ashtabula Ohio right around the first week of June through early October. This is prime walleye time offshore with a mix of steelhead trout. We will troll planer boards, dipsy divers and wire line to achieve the needed depths.

As most of my groups know, I DO NOT run a first mate on my charters. This allows customers to get involved in running rods, netting fish , and getting HANDS ON if they wish! We supply all needed rods, reels, tackle and equipment for the day and can fillet and bag up the days catch after the trip.

1-4 people : $600 total
5 people : $800 total.

The Great Lakes Beetle Barn had a special visitor today picking up their deer mounts. It’s always a riot when ole Bubba shows up with dad grandpa.

He stopped by to check on the “Beetle Man” and make sure everything was running up to his standard 🤣. No trip would be complete with some deer jerky!

Wrapping almost everything up in the shop this weekend! Wow! You guys are freakin AWESOME! I can’t thank you all for the support, even if it was a little overwhelming at times 🤣. Now, onto fishing charters very very soon!

C. Mosebach dropped a dandy during the PA rifle season! This thing was thick with mass!! The beetles did their thing and another impressive European mount is out the door and headed home to this hunter. Congrats on a safe and successful season!

WOW!!!! I don’t think pics or videos can do this Ohio monster ANY justice! What an absolute stud of a deer. Congrats to M. Messenger on this hammer!!! Most will know him for his walleye catching skills but hell, I guess he’s pretty decent at that hunting stuff too! 🤣

PA BRUISER!!!! D. Livingston was finally able to step away from the shop and get some hunting time in, as you can see- it paid off big time! Pictures do not do this thing justice, he’s tall and heavy! What an awesome deer. Thanks for letting me get my hands on it and great job processing my crews deer this season! We look forward to next year!!

Another finished European mount heading to its new Greenville, PA home. Congrats Gary on this great buck, I love the dark wood wall mount to really show off that white skull. I can’t wait to see it hanging up in the man cave!

Just dropped off this PA buck to Ryan’s Deer Processing where the lucky hunter will pick it up along with her specialty products featuring venison hot dogs, snack sticks, and summer sausage! I walked in there yesterday and started salivating at the mouth with the smell of that stuff!!!

Thanks Patty (and Ryan) for the support this year! We are in our final stretch here and believe we have about 20 heads still going through the process and will be finished up soon! If we haven’t reached out to you this week, your skull is definitely nearing completion!

The self proclaimed “King of Pymatuning” finally had his 2024/2025 deer mount finished and it turned out great! We are on our final stretch here at the Great Lakes Beetle Barn for the year and Can’t thank you all enough for the support and the patience during our peak time. None of this would be possible without you all!
